TAC Quick Thai Kitchen: User Reviews
TAC Quick Thai Kitchen

I used to go here for lunch ~5 years ago, but moved out of the neighborhood. I remember it being a pretty good, cheap meal, but not too different from other thai places around town. In the intervening years I've heard TAC getting some good press, so last night we went in for dinner. The service was a little scarce, and we felt a bit rushed. We came in at 9:30pm, and they gave us about 1 minute to order because they said they were closing at 10pm. We ordered two things, the Hainan Chicken, and the red braised pork hock (pigsfeet!!). Both were outstanding. The chicken was tender and mild, served with a nice flavorved white rice that was probably cooked in chicken stock. On the side was a bowl of broth/soup that had a nice herbal flavor. The pork hock was very flavorful and velvety in texture, with a pretty strong spicyness. We were very pleased with both dishes. We also ordered a thai iced tea, but the server never brought it. The only suggestions for improvement would be to tighten up the service (water refills please... not common in the rest of the world, but it's customary in the USA), and please lose the weird techno dance club music. Good food does not have to pretend to be hip. Overall, pretty good. We'll give it another visit for sure.

This was my first visit to TAC Quick (my partner has been raving about it for some time), and I had a good time! The standout for us was crispy Panang noodles -- the sauce is tied for my fave among all the Thai restaurants I’ve sampled, and the noodles are truly addictive. We liked a pork neck special, but it was a bit chewy and one-dimensional (fish sauce predominated). Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee were both superb. It’s a pleasant, comfortable little room with a good view of the diverse street life near the Sheridan El station, and the service was very friendly. TAC Quick could become my new favorite Thai place -- I’ll certainly be back to sample further...

While a TAC Quick guest in the past, I tolerated the staff’s poor attitude and dining room service in order to enjoy good Thai food. Last night though, I decided to try a different approach – delivery. Good food without disappointing human interaction was what I thought I would get. However, I received a cold, dry block of rice noodles with meager pad thai accoutrements, rubbery, greasy pot stickers and an apathetic response to my request that TAC Quick correct the substandard food they served me.
Hoodwinked, swindled, robbed – all describe the way I felt after a TAC Quick management member repeatedly told me, “it’s the way it’s supposed to be” and “it’s not fresh … it gets that way in transit.” The man on the other end of the phone also replied, “the restaurant can’t refund or remake the order because the kitchen is closing.” Unfortunately, at a cost of $16.65 – $4.95 pot stickers/$6.95 pad thai/$4.75 tax and delivery – last night’s dinner was supposed to be a treat. Before I conceded, I informed the man that I would post the above review and boycott his restaurant.
All that I’ve stated above begs the question to TAC Quick, what is the cost of bad business practice? The loss of my patronage may not be substantial. Undoubtedly though, the above review will impact some readers and point their business toward other, more delicious and friendly Thai restaurants.

This is my favorite in town with Sticky Rice a close second. It is BYO and the prices are super. The restaurant is very modern and clean. But yeah, the service is not good. however, I have found that to be the case in a lot of ethnic restaurants. I have never had any problem with food being cold, the order not being right, or anything like that. They just aren't very friendly or helpful. It's not enough to keep me away from their Tom Kha- which is just the very very best. Just thinking about it i think i'll go there tonight- yum!

I've been going here for a while and absolutely love it. I've never had anything there that wasn't great. Particularly the pot stickers which are filled with thai chives, the tom kha soup, and the pad see eiw. They have a large menu including 5 or 6 different curries. Most of the entree's have a choice of different meats, tofu, or vegetables. With the vegetable option, you get a huge variety of veggies, which is a nice change from just celery and carrots. Tac quick is very affordable, has quick and friendly service, is BYOB, has outdoor seating and great food. It's hard to go wrong.

If I could choose not to give nay star at all, i would totally do that by now.
I'm a regular customer of Tac Quick for the past three years. Plus, I always recommend friends and co-workers to try this place. Now my feeling for Tac Q has changed.
I recently ordered to curries for take-out. When I got home, I realized that one of the container's lip was half opened and my curry was split all over inside the plastic bag. Suddenly, i called them up and told them what had happened. If it was my own fault, both of the lids would be half opened or came off, but nope! JUST ONE.
The person on the phone just chillingly told me that it might have been my own mistake that i accidentally split it because they closed the containers tightly enough. She even added that there has never been any problem with other customers! WHAT A BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE WORST I EVER EXPECTED IN MY LIFE!
Will NEVER go back there again and I will make sure to TELL EVERYBODY I KNOW.

TAC has the best and freshest tasting thai food i've had in the city. unfortunately, the service is pretty terrible - the food comes out slowly and sometimes not at all, and the wait staff aren't too attentive. definitely worth going if you can tolerate bad service and have a bottle or two to drink while you wait for your food or check.

I know TAC Quick Thai is always on the list of the best Thai restaurants in the city. I was there recently for the first time and was not fully impressed. 3 apps, 3 entrees and only one dish that was really fantastic. Tod Mun fish cake was like a sliced fish hotdog which was weird, the pork skewers had good taste but seemed not cooked enough. And i had a green curry that was just way too rich and was almost like gravy. How can you go wrong with green curry? It had a bunch of vegetables in it that just seemed really untraditional. My 2 dining companions soups were just ok. The boat noodles and chicken noodle soup. We were not impressed. I'll stick with Spoon and Sticky Rice any day.

This is, hand-down, my favorite Chicago Thai restaurant, though I also favor Sticky Rice on Western just north of Irving Park. This is even better. I learned of this place when it won an LTHForum Neighborhood Award. Focus on the specials board (which doesn't seem to change) and the Thai menu. My favorites include the Sai Krak Isaan (Thai sausage--probably misspelled that) appetizer, the grilled squid appetizer, the fried calamari appetizer, the Nam Nyuang (probably another misspelling), and the Duck Curry. I once had a funny conversation with the owner, when eating there alone. I asked what he recommended. He pointed out a dish I had not tried, saying "It will change your life!" Funny, in a way it did. The flavors were bold and brilliant, and unlike anything I've ever tasted, and I loved it.
