I go out for Thai food every Sunday. I know all the best Thai restaurants in the Chicago area. This Sunday I tried Sticky Rice. I heard many good reviews so it was time to try it for myself. I walked in and found lovely, bright colours and a wait staff similarly clad. The service was kind and competent. My only issue was with the food preparation. The quality and freshness was spot on. But my dish was prepared much too sweet and not nearly spicy enough. I ordered spice level 2 out of 3 so I was expecting the dish to elicit a tear or two – but there was none to speak of. To make matters worse the jasmine rice was overcooked and more like porridge than tender rice. I will return for the wait staff and the pleasant atmosphere. Next time I will be more specific about the sweetness and spice level and get a small sample of the rice before ordering. Nothing spoils a Thai rice dish more than soggy rice instead of “sticky rice.”

I have been here multiple times and the food has always been excellent. Even dishes as mundane as Pad Thai are head and shoulders above all of the other Thai places in town. I've not found the service to be as slow as other reviewers. The decor is pretty grim, but given the very reasonable prices, I don't really expect much more.

I love that this place is in the neighborhood and a good weekday semi-late night (closes at 11 pm) option other than The Nug. I say, skip the deep fried appetizers and order 2 noodle dishes! Pad woon sen is sooo good and only $6!
Report This ReviewHad super high hopes as i have been looking for a solid thai place here in chicago. The food was above average but the service is BAD, really bad. It's not a language barrier, they just don't care. 3 of our 4 appetizers came out after our meal, we had empty glasses and dishes on the table, they just happen to put an extra entre on the bill, and they threw away what was meant to be wrapped up to take home. Just good food ain't gonna cut it! Sorely disappointed.
Report This Reviewreally good food, avoid the fried frog legs though, it was dry and overcooked, the rest of our order was really good, the duck curry was excellent! also the crispy pork with veggies
Report This ReviewThis is definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants. Service is somewhat slow, however, the friendly staff and green curry make up for that.
Report This ReviewExcellent Thai food, probably the best i have ever had, BUT the service is horrible. Not b/c they are rude but b/c they are S-L-O-W!!!!
Report This ReviewGreat Value. The prices are average, but the food is great. I think its so good that it more than compensates for the slow, but friendly service. The interior decoration does not bother me as much as others. Its a lot more cheerful than the decor of other thai restaurants. Sticky Rice has definitely become my thai restaurant of choice. I will try other thai places, but I will always return here when I just want great thai food and am in no mood to experiment with other places.
Report This ReviewGreat food. If you're looking for a Thai restaraunt with more food selection, this is the place. Like the others, I was a little suprised by the atmosphere with the yellow walls, but if you sit by the window, it's not bad. The true indicator of the value of this place is the fact that it was very busy around 7 pm, while another Thai restaraunt 1/2 block away was empty.
