Neighborhood Thai
By KMK from South Loop, July 5, 2009

Overall rating:

The food is consistently great whether dine in or takeout. It used to be BYOB which was wonderful. Note the corkage per bottle has been raised from 10 to 15 dollars. Ridiculous for a neighborhood restaurant. No longer the value it used to be.

Very Satisfied
By cnh from Hyde Park, February 8, 2009

Ma & I has excellent food, a great ambiance, and very attentive servers. The Red Curry was just spicy enough, but not too spicy like some other Thai restaurants. The Massaman Curry was also great, with a very nice peanut taste mixed in. We ordered a bottle of wine (Dr. L, which went great with our chicken curry dishes), so that put us a little over what we would normally pay. Some people say that Ma & I is a little too expensive, but I think that, for the quality of the food, and the warm inviting decor, it is not expensive at all. Will definitely be going back, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Neon Green Curry
By skid from Wicker Park, August 25, 2008

I was sincerely hoping this place was good. Turns out it is not even decent. My green curry was bright green and the beef was very stringy. Panang Curry is bland. But I do like the big windows that open to the street, however, I will not be coming here again.

Well Done

I'm a lover of sushi and I'm glad that the South Loop has Ma & I. We were seating promptly when we walked in and the server was very attentive throughout the entire meal. Our food was delicious! I definitely recommend trying their "SOUTH LOOP" sushi! It's a huge portion and filling! I'd encourage anyone to try this restaurant out. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, the service is nice, and you won't be disappointed!

Certain dishes done great
By col_kurtz from near south, May 6, 2008

We live right around the corner from MA&I and have eaten many times. They do certain dishes very very well- Shu Mai is home made and great, as are the Shrimp Fritters. Panang Curry rocks. Disappointments are the soups, Vegetable stir fry. Overall a decent eat, but I put a big premium on quality soups which this restaurant is not strong with.

Nothing Special
By Codasco from Clayton, April 13, 2008

I came into Ma and I with high expectations and left quite disappointed. Started off with the summer rolls which were good, but very, very small. Next, the stir fry was also a small portion but the sauce was incredibly watery and not very good at all. Brown rice was an extra $2 substitute and the total with tip was $24 (water to drink). I certainly felt like it was quite overpriced.

Great food, a little too expensive
By hungrygirl900 from South Loop , March 31, 2008

The Thai food at this restaurant is delicious and authentic. Try the panang curry...its the best dish there. The wasabi shrimp rolls are also delicious. The ambiance is great, its a very modern restaurant with a quiet and friendly staff. But the food is a little overpriced. I love the place, but you couldn't get take out from there every night of the week because the dishes are a little pricey.

No longer BYOB
By SouthLooper from South Loop, February 23, 2008

They changed and are NO longer free BYOB. They charge $10 per bottle you bring. Not a great value after that..... :(

Guess I'll have to find another good local favorite.

A Satisfied Vegetarian!!!!
By Gobble from hpark, February 21, 2008

Excellent!! My best friend and I were looking for a great Thai restaurant in the area and this place is great. It's clean, the food as delicious, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the prices were more than reasonable and there was a wide selection of dishes to choose from. As a vegetarian, I found several options. I'm going back again and again and again.......!

Great Thai Restaurant!
By WashHalst from West Loop, February 6, 2008

We have been here twice and both times have thoroughly enjoyed the food. They have a great selection for vegetarians and are very accomodating. The ambiance is nice and service was good. Pretty reasonable price for nice thai restaurant..even better it's BYOB without all the cork/glass fees. We will definately be returning here!
