I saw Check Please and the main guy said this place is better than V-town? He must have gone to some pretty bad restaurants. I can honestly say that just because a restaurant is on Check Please, doesn't mean the reviewer knows what he's talking about. Asian restaurants are notorious for not having great service, and this place did not disappoint. It was actually worse. Food was good....but not as good as Joy Yee in Chinatown. There's about half a dozen restaurants in Vtown that I felt were better. Save the mileage and stay north.........

We also went to this place after the Check Please appearance. Overall impressions were that the food was very good (we've been looking for a new Vietnamese spot since New Hing Kee changed ownership and is not the same), but that the service was a little inattentive. Overall, we'll be back though.

Even though the guy who recommended this place on Check Please was kind of loathsome, he is absolutely correct that this is one of best restaurants & deals in Chinatown. If you’re not sure what to order, the staff (which I didn’t have any issues with) will recommend the Vermicelli Noodle (#22-#26) dish which is basically everything you want to eat (meat, noodles, salad and an eggroll) jammed into one bowl.
Café Hoang does have hideous pictures of every dish printed out and taped to the walls, so it’s not a fancy place, but it is probably the best and most convenient Vietnamese restaurants in the city.

Yesterday i attempted to try Cafe Hoang after seeing it on "Check Please". After a short wait we were seated (there were 3 of us). After being seated, we waited about 5 minutes before a menu was handed to us. It was another 10 minutes before anyone came back to take our order. It is never the same person waiting on you. I ordered spring rolls, pad thai and hot tea. The other 2 people in my party placed their orders as well. After a short wait a diet coke and the hot tea was brought to the table. At this time there were no napkins, utensils, or condiments on the table. I asked for some sweetner for my tea. After a 10 minute wait I again asked someone for some sweetner and a spoon. He told me that I would get the spoon later with my meal. The spring rolls arrived, only 2. We have a party of 3 and I wanted the 4 piece spring roll. No ice water to drink, not even offered. After getting no sweetner, no spoon for my tea, and HORRIBLE service we left never to return again.
