I have probably eaten here or taken out over 30 times in the past few years. The food is really far better than any Thai place in this price range. Service is always freindly.
We have never been disapointed and I was suprised to see negative coments from others-- a rare abberation I would think.

Report This ReviewWent for a family meal last week. Everything we had was very tasty but small portioned. Cashew Chicken, Pad Thai, Red Curry, and Basil Fried Rice were all delicious. The only complaint was the many good reviews we read about the "chive dumplings" which were horrific to look at, smell, or even think about eating. They looked like gelatinous plops of snot on the plate and we dare anyone to explain why they are good. The prices were low, parking was easy, and service was efficient. Would definitely go back.
Report This ReviewThe food at Amarind's is excellent from appetizers to desserts, the value is great for food of this quality, and I've personally had no real problems with the service. It can be a little slow on a weekend evening when the restaurant is at max capacity, but even then it falls into the category of acceptably slow for me. I was there about a month ago with a friend who accidentally left his credit card in the restaurant and one of the waiters actually ran out, about a block down the street, and just barely caught us by knocking on the window of the car as we were pulling out onto North Avenue. That service above and beyond the call of duty more than makes up for any occasionaly slowness on busy nights.
The only minor complaint I have is the atmosphere - it is a small space and noise is a bit of an issue when crowded.
Report This ReviewThree words.."Tasty", "Friendly" and "Fast". We go there at least once a month and the food quality is consistently awesome. Their friendly service is second to none. We have tried several Thai restaurants in Chicago but after going to Amarind's we stopped going anywhere else for Thai food.
Report This ReviewVery well prepared curry, just fair pad se ew, but all in all not as amazing as expected. Sticking with Thai Pastry on Broadway.
Report This ReviewJudging from some of the previous reviews, service at this place must have greatly improved because it was GREAT! I asked for some broth to go with a bowl of rice for my 2 year old and they gave us an entire bowl! Food came out very quickly and the wait staff were very kind. One of the best Thai restaurants in the city!!!! Everything was delicious. Easily compares to NYC thai restaurants. Definitely worth the trip to Oak Park!
Report This ReviewThe food at this place is wonderful..so clear that a master is cooking in the kitchen, but with the absolutely deplorable service and atmosphere, the dining experience drags it down to 1 fork. We went on a Saturday nite and the place was packed..unfortunateley the lousy acoustics mean you can hear the obnoxious, continuous screaming yelps of a kid 6 tables away, but not your server.Hire some professional waiters..it's clear your relatives don't know how to wait tables. Very nice, sweet people, but totally inept. We waited, it seemed like hours between courses...they knew they had dropped the ball with us and by the looks of the people around us..glum..we weren't the only ones.
This chef has the talent to create another Arun, but he needs to get really serious about whether he has the skills to run a restaurant. Even with the reduced prices, the value of the experience barely makes it to a 2 fork. What a shame!
If I could award negative stars, this place would merit -10. I went there alone for lunch yesterday and ordered the 6-item lunch special. There were 3 other tables being served. The waiter was rude. So when I tried to tell him I was not getting what I ordered he just looked at me, said he didn't speak English and walked away. When I asked where my soup was that was a part of the lunch special I ordered, I was brought something that bore no resemblance to tom yum and was so salty that it was inedible. The beef in the main dish was rubbery, was not prepared as "beef basil" should be and had parsley in it! The portion amounted to about a 1/2 cup of beef over 4 cups of rice! The iced coffee was so weak as to be tasteless. Interesting thing: one of the tables was filled with Asian diners. The waiter hovered around them and they seemed to be all getting mammoth portions of everything that arrived in a flash vs. the rest of the tables (Caucasians) who were getting the same sort of rude treatment and food that looked like it had been sitting around for days. A guy at one table raved about a glass noodle salad and was told they had no glass noodles would be substituting something else - I watched his dish arrive and it looked like spinach spaghetti. By the way...my beef basil had so-called fresh green beans in it that were at least a week past serving condition. Ugh and double UGH! I cannot see how a place like this stays in business. Then they had the gall to try to charge me $7 for t
Report This ReviewOur party of four enjoyed a Thai meal that offered fresh and flavorful entrees a cut above other Thai restaurants we have visited. The stuffed chicken appetizer and spinach noodles were particularly good. Service was entirely acceptable, although the restaurant was not extremely crowded. I will definitely return.
