I took two of my friends out to eat. Since I have heard so much buzz thru friends about this place I figure we would just check it out. We were impress with this place at first, They advertise that they are BYOB so we brought our own bottle of wine and before we even finish sitting one of the girl was telling us about the cork fee they charge, mind you our coats were still on us. Then we were looking over the menu and since no of us have been there before there was a lot to take in. One of the waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order and we told her we are looking thru the menu give us a minute and just as she left our table about a minute later a different waitress came to ask the same question “are you ready to order” we notify her of the same we still looking. So they left us alone and about 3 minutes later they came and we order appetizers a total of three to start and once they brought us the first one they were back in attack mode ready to order? Mind you there was no line and it was slow it was a Monday. So finally we order a total of $94.00 total worth of food of wait deduct $5 for the cork fee. So $89 in food for just three of us. We are sipping on the last glass of wine and they bring us the bill. We didn’t even have the chance to look at it when waitress are back in attack mode about is it ready? And I replied no , them my friends did that a few times. so finally after the five try I asked her do you have to go somewhere and she look at me funny and say no , them I told her so what is the rush??? They left us alone after that. We paid our bill but I got to tell you , I liked the food but for the money I spend I believe we some got shitty service not worth putting up with and especially under this economy they should be grateful we are still spending money in their establishment.
In just a nut shell DO NOT go to this place if you don’t want to be rush…. There are too many sushi places to pick from and friendlier in the city.

I was really impressed with Wakamono at first. But since I started going had a couple of bad experiences. #1 - I got take out and there was a dead bee in my edamamae #2 - dined in one night and the service was in a big rush and not very friendly (it was a Wednesday night) and one of the pieces was so bad I had to send it back. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places and never had to do that. There are too many good sushi places in the city, don't think I will be back to this one.

I really love this place... although there is always a wait, the one night we did wait to eat here is was AWESOME! So much so we order delivery from here and sometimes do the 10 block walk to pick it up. It's always ready and waiting for me, (and I order on the way out the door). I thought the hosts were friendlier than the wait staff, but they were far from the rude reports they recieved from other reviewers. They have great specials which usually include the spicy white tuna, the best ever! I can spend under $20 for 3 rolls... great for someone like myself, who stuggles with menu choices. I will continue to be a returning customer to Wakamono. You just won't find me waiting 30+ for a table.

This place is nothing special, but very convenient for us to visit. Nice patio and average fish (sometimes still frozen), but the service and wait staff are terrible. The check is dropped off as soon as you don’t ask for any more food or drinks. Waitress comes back every minute to check on the bill and take your card or cash. This is annoying!
No one tells you about last call for drinks and attitude of the staff is unbelievable. It’s like they are doing you a favor by serving you. And all this ‘fun’ for an average bill of $200.
Stay away!

I don't know how Sushi afficianado's would feel about this place... but I really liked it, great place for a date if you're in the area. I generally try and steer clear of the raw fish, but it was very tasty here, didn't have that raw feel to it, probably because its fresh!

This is by far my favorite sushi in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area. Fresh fish and creative rolls abound (try the Mexicano Roll - yummm), and the atmosphere is nice. They have a wine list but you can BYO with no corkage fee as well. To top it all off, it's very reasonably priced. I looove Wakamono :)

After spending over $200 on mediocre sushi and thier best bottle of champagne, we were asked to leave 5 minutes after we paid our check. Some rude host/manager came to our table and told us he had 16 people waiting and needed us to move on. We were still finishing our champagne! We were completely dumbfounded and speechless. We mentioned this rude service to the maitre d', but could not locate the jerk who actually confronted us. We will never be back! Such a waste of money for overpriced sushi with mushy rice! I was hoping to find a good sushi place in the neighborhood, but I'll stick to my favorite place in Lincoln Park, despite the long wait.

They totally messed for carry out and would not refund or credit us for their mistakes. The manager was so unbelievably rude and I will never deal with their crappy service again. And they charge $2 just to add crunch to a roll..

The sashimi was so fresh and of very good quality. Loved the Godzilla and Oedipus rolls!! There seem to be complaints of service but we had fast and easy service so maybe those were just bad nights. Atmosphere was very nice sitting outside on one of the last warm days of the summer. I'm VERY picky about sushi and really loved everything I had here. Will definitely be back.
