Forget the name, because the special at Tropical Fishmarket is the live catfish swimming in the 10-foot-long tub that dominates the store. From 400-500 pounds of catfish are delivered to the store every Wednesday, said owner John Herrera. He also sells seafood such as oysters, clams, shrimp and abalone, but those are not live. Customers can kill and clean their meal themselves or Herrera will do the dirty work, skinning, slicing or filleting at no extra charge. Herrera figures he owes his business, which opened in 1993, to the live catfish. Dead fish attract flies but, Herrera said, 'Live fish attract a lot of people.'
