WOW! If you leave hungry...it's your fault

My wife and I went to St. Charles Place to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. About a week before we arrived I had gone over the menu online and decided to make reservations. I immediately noticed that the portion sizes were much larger than most steakhouses I've previously been to and the prices reflected such. We were seated at our table and I fell in love with this place. I absolutely loved the decor and I always give extra points to places that give off that cozy feeling with dimmed lighting. To my surprise the menu at the restaurant, however, did not coincide with what I saw online. Some of the meals were even larger portions and came along with even higher prices. It was a special occasion so I did not get too hung up on it. We basically ordered a surf n' turf style meal. NOTE: If you order king crab legs to go along with a steak be very hungry! We each ordered a steak entree and the added the crab legs per our waitress' inquiry. What was left out of the order taking was that the "side" of crab legs were in fact a full pound! We each got this with our steaks! Needless to say we were forced to eat the crab first and leave part of the steak to take home. The food was fantastic though. The seafood was steamed to perfection and the steaks were cooked exactly the way we like them. When all was said and done, we then received the sticker shock. My wife and I do go all out for our anniversary dinners, but this was definitely the most I have and probably will ever pay for a dinner. The bill was a hefty $175 of that $25 was for drinks. The waitress was polite and very deserving of the $50 tip we left. Although, the food is a bit expensive we will definitely be going back.

I Love St. Charles Place! With all the new restaurants opening and having tried even the newest in the Baker Hotel I am so thrilled to return to SCP for an outstanding meal!
My husband and I both enjoy the Roast Prime Rib served every day as well as the
great assortment of appetizers. Tom the host always greets us as if we are coming to his house for dinner and makes the evening so special. He has been known to whip up his famous Chicken Liver Pate which is out of this world..ask for it..you will love it!! The decor is so beautiful and different! Someone put a lot of thought into how to design a comfortable, beautifully eclectic atmosphere that makes you want to stay all evening!!
If you have not been here ..go now..you will love it! It has been our favorite for 15 years!!

I Love This Place!!

This Place Rocks!! Tommy Jr. at the front makes you feel so at home. The Steaks are the best anywhere! The Rib Eye is amazing! All the dinners come with Potatoes and sides no ala carte business here, your dinner comes complete which I appreciate! I have brought out of towners here and they are always asking me to please take them back to the beautiful restaurant with the great food! What more could you want..

I cannot believe the previous review!! I have been coming to St. Chas Place for years..great steaks..the best oysters rock..and I have had Beef Wellington on my last two visits? We have always had the best service and the most wonderful meals ever. Give it another try!! I have never noticed a untidy wait person but maybe she had a bad day..we all have!! The food and ambiance are what I seek and always find..try the Shrimp de Jonghe..YUM!!!

What a Disappointment

My husband and I went to St Charles Place based on the review I read in Metromix. We were both quite disappointed. The review said they served Beef Wellington, Chateaubriand and several other dishes, none of these were to be found on their menu.
We went on a Sunday at 5:00, the waitress was unattentive, her clothes were wrinkled, hair a mess and It appeared like she just crawled out of bed.
I will say the oysters rockafeller were excellent

This place is great! The service and food excellent. I cannot wait to go back..I travrl from Chicago to have great food without the city prices and attitude..The decor is so fabulous and different..I read a previous review about service and am not sure what pleasant but friendly means? I want service I am not looking for friends..try this place..you will love it!!

While the restaurant itself gives a nice appearance and warm atmosphere, we found the average steakhouse quality food quite pricey. The young inexperienced waitress was courteous, not friendly and welcoming, and service was less then attentive. Our overall experience was not what we would expect of a fine steakhouse.

Wow, how could I have missed this place! We were in for dinner on Saturday. The hosts Tom and Jackie were so welcoming..the food superb and our service outstanding. This is a Gem for the Fox Valley..a dinner you would find in Chicago but for so much more $$. We were thrilled and will be back. The decor is so beautiful too!!

All I can say is that my Grandma is known for being the pickiest eater on earth. She is an excellent cook and expects the same when she dines. However, to give you an idea of how wonderful St. Charles Place is, while my grandma visited my mom for two months in St. Charles, she made St. Charles Place her restaurant of choice when meeting friends and relatives out for dinner. When my grandma ended her visit at my mom's, she left behind a $300 gift certificate for my mom. If my grandma loved St. Charles Place, you will too! By the way, do not get the impression that St. Charles Place is just for the grandma's. The restaurant has a mixed crowd, a bar, decorated wonderfully and has a great fireplace that adds to the ambiance.
