Kinzie Chophouse: User Reviews
Kinzie Chophouse has everything that you could ask for in a steakhouse. It has spectacular service, great tasting steaks and all of the ambiance that you could ask for. It is and will be one of my favorites.

We went to the Kinzie Chop House a couple of weeks ago - I had the special - Filet with Risotto. The steak was extremely chewy and almost inedible. Unfortunately, we didn't have a starter, so I can't comment about that but we did have a dessert - the profiteroles - unfortunately, they were full of so much icecream that I couldn't taste the choux pastry. The icecream seemed to be disguising a slightly stale profiterole.
The service and venue is great though. I'm sure we just went there on a bad day and would give them another try.

My family recently moved to Chicago from New York City. My wife and I do not necessarily do steakhouses often, but on the occasion, we seek out what is widely considered best. Although I received other recommendations from friends, I was captivated by the consistently excellent reviews that Kinzie's received for their service. Let me tell you....we were not disappointed. This is the first steakhouse I have patronized since moving to this city, and I truly have this feeling that there is no reason to patronize any other. The food was perfect as was our server, David. It feels odd referring to him as a server because it seems almost menial. The service he provided was impeccable. Unintrusive , unpretentious, and relaxed. He offered his knowledge graciously and generally kept a good eye on us. Chatted with us for a bit and made us feel like we were regulars. Our party of 4 was absolutely thrilled with the quality of service. Do I seem to be laying it on a little thick? Maybe, but consider this. At one point I had to get up to tap a kidney. Another member of the staff noticed that I had no clue where the bathroom was. Before I could ask, he approached me and pointed out the restroom. He did this while engaged in another task close to the bar. I think this kind of watchful eye but a multitude of staff is rare. Nevertheless, I don't do "fine dining" very often.
Continuing on, we drank and dined for about 3 hours....at our own pleasure. And the food...well, amazing. We commenced with the appetizer sampler at David's recommendation and were all pleased because it provided a decent selection of items otherwise offered on the menu ala carte. For entree, my pal and I had the bone-in filet. That was a first for me. Excellent. The ladies enjoyed a Delmonico and a Kansas City Strip respectively. Cooked exactly to our preference. Our sides were equally satisfying. We asked for and received an excellent recommendation for a wine, within a budget, to pair with the steaks. Each member of our party enjoyed their respective desserts....I enjoyed another Heinekin. Upon our departure, David shook our hand and thanked us for our generosity. I guess we offered a decent gratuity. We thanked him for a fantastic evening and for truly making dining-out such a pleasure. When you drop a several hundred on dinner and drinks, you expect it to be an evening to remember for all the right reasons. This experience exceeded my expectations....in a classy, yet down to earth manner. If I had to choose my last meal, I'd go to Kinzie's Chophouse.

I can't say enough good things about the Kinzie Chophouse. Let's start with the service - friendly, attentive , knowledgeable, and fun. They seem to have cornered the market on good-looking young male waiters. I particularly liked that the manager (owner?) stopped by our table to say hi and then again when my boyfriend has a question about scotch. As he we left, we ended up having another conversation with him about remodleing bathrooms - long story - but it was cool. He and all of the staff treated us with such a pleasing and friendly manner that I know I will go back often. The food was really, really good. Our steak - we had the 48 oz porterhouse for four - was perfectly cooked and ridiculously good. The sides were very good. Our dessert, creme brulee, was probably the best I've had in the city, and I get it every time I see it on a menu. The shell was crispy, the filling was yummy.

I have passed by the Kinzie Chophouse for years but recently took the opportunity on a couple of occasions to visit for lunch. I was really impressed with the decor, small, quaint but nice. Food was great! As well as the service and most certainly the value. I would highly recommend Kinzie Chophouse for lunch or dinner.

I recently had dinner at Kinzie Chophouse and had the best steak in the city. My dinner mates raved about the seafood and pasta dishes. The staff is outstanding from the welcome at the door to top notch professional service. This restaurant, by far, suprpasses others that may be more well know. Kinzie is a must for anyone who appreciates fine dining in a comfortable environment.

This place provided my wife and I with a very special evening. Special seating in a very large and comfortable booth, excellent bone-in fillet as good as any fine steak joint in Chicago, my wife had an excellent Halibut, they surprised us with comped champagne and dessert. All of this with extremely friendly and prompt service. They even reacted with care and speed when an item had to be sent back. Thank you Kinzie Chophouse! We'll be back!
Report This ReviewOf the major steak joints, this place is the least pretentious and most pleasant. We've done Kiefer's, G&G, The Chophouse, Wildfire, S&W, etc. These guys know steak. When they explain the steak choices and what the different characteristics are, you know you're at a quality place. This is the only steak joint in Chicago that we revisit (and are going to when we visit this weekend now that we live out of town.) You can't go wrong here. Not sure where the 1 star folks were as that has never been our experience (unlike at some of the aforementioned places.) And honestly, what matters more than the steak at a steak joint - nada. And Kinzie's is excellent.
Report This ReviewAfter waiting for an 8:00 pm seating at Aigre Doux and was never seated, we proceeded to walk to Kinzie Chophouse. What a surprise! This restaurant is absolutely great. Not only was the food outstanding, but our wonderful waiter, with model looks, was the best ever. He was attentive, nice, helpful with the menu, and just a wonderful person. Our steaks were outstanding, and our waiter suggested the perfect wine to compliment our steaks. Kudos to this restaurant, we will definitely be back, soon!!
