Cafe Iberico owner Jose Lagoa launched this lively weekend-only tapas spot directly above his popular Iberico to showcase the Basque spin on tapas, little skewered bites called pintxos (PEENT-shows). Ordering is easy, since options are laid out on each placemat, complete with handy pictures. Pintxos, primarily grilled meats and seafood paired with different sauces, are available by the piece or as combos to ease group ordering. Desserts come in tapas-size portions too; the lineup includes cute little flans, crepes and bread puddings. Even the bar offers a downsized option: mini wine pours better known as txikits in the taverns of Northern Spain. More substantial options include made-to-order tortillas espanolas, available in three sizes (the largest feeds 4-5 people), and chicken al ajillo served family-style in cazuelas. The second-floor space, done up in yellows and greens, is part bar, part dining room, with large front windows that swing wide open during the warmer months.
