I'm not sure why there are negative reviews. I went there with a party of 6 and we had reservations for 7pm on a Friday and got our table within five minutes. Our food was terrific and the portions are big! The service was very attentive. I think some might perceive the service as slow, but in reality they let you take your time and enjoy your meal. Dinner is not a race!!! If you want "fast service" go to McDonalds.

Nothing to be afraid of here, Dorothy! Just great grilled steaks, pork, chicken and seafood! We tried a number of menu items, but can say we highly recommend the tender and juicy Entrana (skirt steak) or Bandejo Paisa (ribeye). Also, try the Pollo (chicken): pounded, marinated and grilled to perfection! As you enjoy the food, you'll appreciate their friendly and efficient service, as well as the comfortable, spacious seating and surroundings! "There's no place like home," I mean, like Las Tablas!

I went to Las Tablas for the first time in years...first they have moved to a new location...bigger and prettier..as other reviews say it was loud but they had a musical group playing..that's actually the reason I went!!!!...they had this Festival going on with Hothouse so the place was full...at the beginning the hostess would take our names at all because we didn't have a reservation an the place was packed...anyway we convinced her and sure enough not too long after we had a table...she actually apologized for the wait... then we waited for our waiter but we could see he was really busy...anyway he came to us..didn't write the order down...but HE REMEMBERED EVERYTHING! we couldn't believe it...he was GREAT...I think his name was Carlos ..from Manizales, Colombia...the food was delicious and had enough to take home...OVERALL great experience...I will totally go back...

What happened? This place used to be one of my favorites..
I've recommended this place to just about everyone I know.. Everyone always had good things to say.
Then they moved.. just across the street but it seems that everything changed. Starting with the much higher prices..
My family used to love this place so it was a bit of a treat to go together. We had a "not so great" experience a few months ago with the service but the food was ok.
We went back a few days ago and were surprised at how empty the place was. Considering our prior experience I figured we'd get better service.
We ordered three cheese empanadas and four "lulo" juices (they no longer make the passion fruit juice, which was probably the best-- and no more "mora" (blackberry) either). a couple of minutes later the waiter serves some very sweet and watered down juice--which tasted more like pineapple. then he tells us that they only have meat empanadas--we passed.
So, he took our order.. 2 Combination plates (Shrimp and chicken), one "Pollo al Ajillo" and one Vegetarian dish.. 5 minutes later, the waiter comes back with our food. it was almost as if we had called it in--or they somehow knew we were coming. I remember they used to serve rice and beans with just about every dish.. You now have to order that as an additional side dish. the beans almost seemed like they were canned beans--not good. the chicken was very thinly sliced and not at all seasoned with whatever used to make it taste so good. The menu says "baked potato", and I remember they used to give you a baked potato.. instead each one of our plates had 2 sliced and very fried potatoes. the yuca came in 2 tiny, and very dry, pieces. The only thing that was hot was the cast-iron slab they served the meat dishes in. The veggie dish was cold and what is up with awful lettuce they now use in the side salad for this dish?
We paid almost $120 for very little food and "juice". and there was only 4 of us. I couldn't believe it. We forgot to bring the wine but we noticed that they doubled their corking fee to $8.
I can't recommend this place. too bad, it used to be so good.

If you have ever been to Colombia and experienced the majority of restaurants while there, you will have experienced what it means to be served politely and made to feel at home.
My experience at Las Tablas was that of servers that wished you would just order and leave . . . food that was cold when it arrived . . . and a price that makes you ask why did I think I'd get a good meal here.
Avoid Las Tablas - There is better Colombian food within 10 minutes from here!

Over the past few years I have become a regular @ LT. Food is great, service great, but the volume level has become excessive. It must be the tile floors & stucco walls. You cannot hear the people across from you speak. I hope the owners put up the proper sound dampening things to keep the noise controlled. The volume has driven myself & others out of the restaurant. A lot of lost revenue for a good restaurant.

Although I have never written a review before, I was so disappointed by my experience at Las Tablas that I feel compelled to let other people know about it.
ARE THEY CALLED WAITORS/WAITRESS BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOU WAIT? -
Because I had heard so many great things about Las Tablas, I was very excited to finally go. Now it was not to point where I had set the bar too high and they could never live up to my expectations - I was just looking forward to a great steak with some Columbian side dishes.
My friend and I had a 815pm reservations on a Saturday night. We got there on time and there were about 15 people waiting in the bar/waiting area. We got seated about 825pm, which I consider that an acceptable seating time even though we had reservations.
Right off the bat it looked like they were short staffed. Every table was packed with customers and there were a bazillion bus-boys, but minimal servers. Immediately, a bus-boy gave us some water and a bowl of chopped jalapeno topping. This topping would come in very handy for my steak later.
So after about 15 minutes of not knowing if we have a server or not, my friend finally asks the hostess that was walking by if we have a waitress? The hostess said yes she would be right with us. Finally after about 10 more minutes of having no contact with a server of any kind, the hostess walks by and I give her the look like 'where is our waitress?' She then looks down and sees we only have water and the jalapeno topping. The hostess nicely comes over and asks if we want any drinks or appetizers. Meanwhile, I know that this is our one chance to order so we better order everything NOW! She hastily jots our order down on a stack of napkins.
HOW DOES A PLACE RUN OUT OF THE SPECIAL ON THE DAY IT IS THE SPECIAL? -
My friend had told me that she heard the Fish Soup is a must get. When I look on the menu I see that it is the 'Soup of the Day' for Saturday night. So of course I order it when the hostess wrote down our order. Meanwhile I ordered the NY Strip with Shrimp combo, but subbing a baked potatoe with sour cream in place of the rice. We also ordered a pitcher of Sangria.
Now the time comes and we finally meet our waitress. She approached us with a guilty smile as though she knew she had done something wrong. She said hi and that they are out of the Fish Soup, would I like anything else. I promptly said no thank you because nothing else from appetizer menu looked appealling or unique to me. Fortunately, the Sangria showed up and so it helped put out the fire that was starting to kindle inside of me.
So the second time we see our waitress she is bringing over our food. To no surprise she has rice instead of the baked potatoe I asked for. So she goes and brings back a partially baked potatoe. Now I ask for sour cream. She leaves and comes back saying 'They don't have sour cream'. At this point I am not really surprised by anything anymore.
IN THE END...
They gave us a Coconut Flan for dessert as compensation for the bad service. My shrimp & steak was delicious especially with the jalapeno topping, the plantan was good, and the Flan was to die for (it was so good I feel guilty for eating it). Also, I never knew Yucca tastes like french fries.
Overall I hope this was just an off night for them and I hope other people have a better experience. I personally do not feel like it is worth going back ever again. It's kind of like a movie that you have to watch once, but then you never want to see it again. Not bad enough where I want my $10.50 and hour-and-half of my life back, but I saw once and that is good enough.

Two solid thumbs down for value and food quality. I can not believe a "steak house" charges almost $20 for a 1/4" thick piece of meat cooked on a griddle. Who serves a plain (I mean totally plain) baked potato as a side dish to a meal? Please do yourself a favor and cross this place off of your restaurant list.

We used to frequent Las Tablas when we lived in the neighborhood, but hadn't been to the restaurant since it moved across the street. When my husband and I read the latest Metromix reader reviews, we were a little worried that the place had gone downhill. Luckily, our experience was that the place had actually gotten even better.
The service, while criticized in several of the comments below, was markedly improved. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess and our table (without reservations) was ready quickly. Once seated, we were welcomed by our waiter, Carlos, who seemed to be a native of Colombia and told us all about the food and how it's served there.
The food was as good as we remembered. If you've never tried the aborrojado appetizer -- a plaintain with guava and melted cheese -- you have to order it. It sounds like an odd combination but is delicious. For dinner the two of us shared the Colombian meat platter for two, which is a great way to try lots of different meats and sides.
It got a bit loud towards the end of dinner as the crowd picked up, but nothing to complain about. I'm so glad we tried Las Tablas again, in spite of the spotty recent reviews -- we were not disappointed at all and will be back again.

Very disappointed at the service and food. We went on a weekend, which I can understand we might have to wait awhile, but it seem like forever!!! Almost 1.5 hours. The host looked overwhelmed, which I can understand. So now that we are starving, we finally get our food after waiting another 1.5 hours, and the majority did not like the food. I was so hungry, that I had no choice but to enjoy it. Aside from the long wait, and food, we constantly had to flag waitstaff. The place looks very nice, don't get me wrong; it is loud, but I like loud so that wasn't a problem for me. Oh, and my Mojito looked like they shoved a handful of mint in my glass. Not classy at all! Not worth the wait for the money you will spend on ordinary food.
