Allergy Indifferent

Don't bother dealing with this place if you have any sort of food allergies. I recently called in to ask about gluten-free food options (which should not be at all difficult for a place that serves so much meat) and their response was "We don't do that. We don't deal with any allergens because our food has so many ingredients and we don't know what's in all of them." I tried to explain that I didn't need to know what was in every dish, just if I would have some options. He was not interested in helping me.
Apparently this place must be fantastic since they can be so rude to potential customers and still be in business. Personally, I am a bit wary of someplace that isn't aware of what's in their food.

Fun Evening
By NorthShoreWineGuy from North Shore, February 26, 2009

We had the full Brazzaz experience. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Very sleek. Overall, the goucho service was fun. You definately have to pay attention to your flip button to control the flow of food service. We had a good variation of items come to the table with repeats arriving only later in the service. Overall food was terrific. I thought the lamb was a little too gamey, but I know some people prefer it that way. A little pricey, but you have to understand the amount of food you have available to you is incredible. It really doesn't stop, so I think that makes it a good value. Very fun environment, and the dinner makes for a great evening.

We had reservations for 6:30 and, despite them having multiple open tables, had to wait for about 10 minutes to be seated and it took our waiter about 5 more minutes to come over and greet us.

Once we started "meat service" we were most often visited by the "Pineapple Express" which was the Gaucho serving roasted pineapple. The leg of lamb tasted horrible. The chicken was undercooked. The beef rib was rubbery. The rib-eye was mostly fat. Forget about the peppered filet, which was prepared by taking a can of cheap pepper flakes and dump it on the meat. The shrimp were a bit salty. I didn't even get to try the lamb chops, because that guy never made it to our table.

The bottom line here is that if you're considering a Churrascaria in the Chicago area, do yourself a favor and go directly to the one with the best ambiance, best service, highest quality meats, best salad bar, etc.: Texas de Brasil. Skip Brazzaz and skip Fogo, they're nothing more than the OCB's of churrascarias.

This restaurant was terrific! It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. The salad bar included sushi and pasta, and the service was spectacular. This is definitely a spot we will come back to over and over again.

Bad Experience
By Aldmoth60 from Logan Square, February 5, 2009

We showed up for lunch right when they opened the store. We were seated and waited for 30 mins before someone told us that no food was ready yet. We spoke to a manager (after it took 10 minutes to find one) and he expressed his unhappiness with the situation aand told us that he would talk to his boss and that they would contact us about some sort of compensation. A few days later we hadn't received any call, so we called and were pretty much told by another manager that he didn't care. The food was great the first time we were there, but the willingness of the manager to blow us off completely ruined the experience and hence we will never be returning.

Mediocre Food, Terrible Service
By jwm1205 from Old Town, September 7, 2008

My wife and I decided to go to Brazzaz to celebrate her 30th birthday as we previously had great experiences. Overall, the quality and taste of the food was mediocre however I agree their selections are much greater than Fogo, but the quality just isn’t there. As for the service, the evening started good but decreased dramatically throughout the night. We can only assume they released some of the staff as it was a slow night. We were seated at 7:45pm and were finished by 8:30pm. It took another 15 mins to get one of the servers’ attention to ask to see the dessert menu. It took another 15 mins (now 9:00pm) for the server to bring the dessert tray to our table. We decided to take a piece of dessert home and requested the check at the same time since it was already 30 mins since we finished eating and we didn’t want to wait around any more. Twenty minutes later (now almost 9:20pm) the server stopped by our table and said “you are having the papaya, right?”, I replied and said “no, I asked for the tiramisu to go and the check”. We finally got the check and the dessert close to 9:45pm, note it has now been almost an hour and a half since we finished eating the main course. To add to this horrible experience, I noted on my opentable reservation that it was my wife’s 30th birthday and called the day before to ensure they would notify our server. Needless to say, there was no mention from anyone at the restaurant regarding her birthday. Given this experience we will not be back and will instead head to Fogo or Texas De Brazil for a quality meal / experience.

Great for lunch!

I love going to Brazzaz for lunch! It is basically the same as for dinner, but a third of the cost! The food is always fresh and spectacular. The pao de queijo (cheese bread), grilled pineapple, and salad bar (if you can even call it that!) are my favorites! A great place for trying new food with friends. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Not a good value
By Zhigak from Lincoln Park, May 30, 2008

The food is what I would call "good to very good," but it is not the best grill I've eaten. What troubles me greatly is the price. We even used what looked like a generous "$25 gift card." But what that did was it reduced the cost of our entree from an insane $48.50 per person to $36, and this did not include tax, tip, and drinks. I would never pay full price at Brazzaz, because even the discount makes this one of the most expensive restaurants I've ever been to, and the quality, though good, simply does not merit this price. It is a tourist mill, like an adult Rainforest Cafe. Overpriced and overvalued, like Medieval Times, Hard Rock, and other tourist attractions.

An entree in Chicago's best restaurants ranges between around $11 and $20. Where does Brazzaz get off charging $48.50?

My advice: Save your money and grill it yourself. Brazzaz is the latest hoax to sap you of your domestic power. There is nothing there that you cannot do on your grill, often even better. For the price you will pay for an hour at Brazzaz for its rodizio (say $160 for two), you can buy 30 to 50 pounds of top-grade grilling and roasting meats and enjoy it every day for two months.

Carnivore Central

I've been to Brazzaz two times, and I have not been let down. The first was for the $20 lunch special and the other was yesterday (a Sunday) for the $50 dinner. The salad bar is outstanding! My mom got just the salad bar, which is an option for $30, which is a great price. The items are so fresh and incredibly tasty. But on to the meat... wow. That's all I have to say. It's over whelming when you flip over your token and Gaucho after Gaucho comes over with all the different meats and the pineapple (a MUST have). Be sure to try everything! My favorites were the fillet mignon (cooked beautifully) and the leg of lamb (sooo moist!). I didn't really care for the pork ribs or the garlic steak (great flavor there, but too well done). The servers are all so courteous and incredibly polite.
