A Peruvian restaurant is defined by its ceviche. After a few disappointments elsewhere in Chicago, I find myself satisfied that I've possibly found the best ceviche in the city. The ingridients are the REAL DEAL and the TASTE is AMAZING!

After reading the reviews on metromix we decided to try. We have tried many restaurants reviewed on metromix and found many great places but this is our first review and felt this place was well worth it!! Don't judge the book by the cover. Once inside the ambiance was great with music at just the right volume to carry a conversation. We went on a Sunday evening (630)and had no trouble getting a seat (although we did call ahead just in case). We started with two "small plates" the anicuchos and the Peru Tamales. The tamales were good but adding the green chile sauce added that little kick of spice. The Anticuchos was tender and mouth watering. For our main entrees we asked our server for suggestions and he quickly pointed out two dishes. I tried the bruchetta with shrimp and talapia. on a bed of rice. It was excellent. My husband had a steak dish, Churr. Parrilla. It has mild puruvian seasoning and was served over either rice or fries. The meat was seasoned perfectly. Two small plates and two entrees cost us $45.00. An excellent value for an excellent meal. This is a must you won't be dissapointed

The decor is different, the food is amazing, and the INCA KOLA delicious. I loved the yucca frita huancaina ( to start off). The food here was very flavorful and delicious. I would definitely come back. byob

Avoid the weekend crowds--show up exactly at noon when they start serving lunch. otherwise, you're going to be waiting in a long line! Make a reservation, always helps!! There is a native musician playing from time to time, bring your wine, this place is byob and will serve you with no extra cost, BIG SAFE!!!

I have been to several peruvian restaurants. But, Ay Ay Picante-Peruvian Cuisine by far has the best customer service, food selections and authenticity that one goes looking for. This is the peruvian food of the stars, no joke. The Waiting might be long sometimes. But all in all, it's well worth waiting for. You can always call ahead and pick up your order, (only $3:00 delivery anywhere) it's that easy. I love that place and will always be a loyal customer! Great Ambiance, friendly service, BYOB
Vegetarian friendly!!!

Being Peruvian, I know how my food is suppose to taste like....
That being said Ay Ay Picante is the worst Peruvian cuisine I ever ate at!!!
The cooks cut up the meat as if serving Mexican dishes, which is nothing like the delicious plates of Peru....
Their sauces are way too seasoned and all in all, they barely hit the Peruvian experience.

we went there for dinner last night and there was 4 of us. we love BYOB places. We all loved the fried calamari. It is the best in Chicago. I am big fried calamari fan. My husband and I loved the sopa a la minuta: beef broth with angel hair pasta and egg soup. Very yummy.
The food and service was great. My only complain is the open kitchen. At times, the fume from the kitchen was overpowering. I smelled like food leaving there.
Definitely will return. Will try to sit as far as possible from the open kitchen.

No other peruvian restaturant compares to this one.
Rinconcito Sudamericano has a lot to learn from AyAyPicante
They open late, too. Nice music. Bread is fresh and soft and sause is not too hot.
