Good Food, Great Service

My husband and I went to Zed 451 for our two year wedding anniversary, and we were pleasantly surprised by how friendly, knowledgable, and efficient the staff was. My husband let our server know that I am pregnant, and the chef came out to discuss possible food hazards with me, which I was very impressed with. The food was all very good, and we never had a shortage. The staff was always very friendly, and it seemed like we were guests in their own home. They had a tremendous sense of pride, and their actions were very polished. We haven't had such good service in a really long time. We will definitely be going back.

This place is terrible. DO NOT GO.

Service was not only just bad, it was appalling. Our company had a dinner party there and they ignored us and rushed us through the meal. They also brought trays of drinks and overpriced desserts to our table that we did not order. When we questioned them, we were blown off. Of course, all of this was on the bill. They eventually took almost $1,000 of drinks and desserts off the bill, but no one should have to go through the hassle and aggravation of something like this. What a mistake picking this restaurant.

New years eve 2008-09

Take this from someone in the business. Great food, great service, great looking place! If you are worried about the server not being at your beck and call, fill up your plate when the chefs come around. If your table is not ready when you get there, no biggie, get a drink at the bar! Not too hard right? Most of all, I made the reservation 2 days before new years and got in at 7:45 pm. Did not even have to wait 5 min. Maybe I just got lucky. Been to Fogo and other places like Zed, but Zed takes the cake. Will definately return. Thanks Andrew!!

Not impressed

I went to Zed NYE's and this was my second time here. I was less impressed the second time around. Service was very poor. We were told that we would get to sample over 20 dishes but the same 5 kept coming to our table. Not to mention that we had to wait a long time in between chefs. For the most part the food was tasty but not good enough for me to want to go back. I've been to several other Brazilian steakhouses that are much better than Zed.

I love the Cranberry Spiced Old Fashioned

I went to ZED with some girlfriends I was visiting. There was a little bit of a wait so we grabbed some drinks at the lounge. Based off the bartender's recommendation, I went for the cranberry-spiced old fashioned. It was absolutely delicious! You must, must try it!

dead 451 are you even trying?

I ate at zed451 last week for the second time with a group of 6 and for the second time was very dissapointed...yea 55 dollars per person is not a lot of money anymore for dinner but it's not chump change either-- the utter cheapness of this place is mindblowing...the restaurant itself is beautiful and must have cost millions of dollars to renovate but what a waste because they seem to be cheaping out everywhere else.

1 The meal started out with a trip to the buffet fully stocked with jewell deli case quality cheeses and meat. why would you have cheese and roasted and canned vegetables in your charcutery section but no mustard, no pate, no pickled veggies?

2.the salads seem to have changed since my first visit but really 55 dollars for spring mix salad. dead overcooked cold mushrooms, brown pineapple? soups were lame and tasted old

3. After finishing -or should i say being finished with our selections for the buffet we were battered with random bursts of meat from the floor roving chefs. some over cooked some undercooked and almost all over seasoned none outstanding. for the most part all cheap cuts of meat and a few selections of cold and overcooked seafood off of plates. i particularly remember the most overcooked duck i have ever witnessed store bought sausage that we were told came from portugal -- All served to us by "chefs" in filthy chef whites. with the meats came our rock shrimp and bay scallop amuse which i found oddly timed being its and amuse some god awful concoction that contained cocktail sauce -- so came our side dishes squash cooked in butter and garlic-- to much undercooked garlic - a potato gratin of some sort that was broken with oil running out of the cast iron vessel onto a plate

4.our server was barely existent throughout out meal though he did not appear to busy at all when he was around. He seemed very concerned with us being happy when he was around but he just didn't want to be the one to make sure of it.

5 so after dinner we laughed and swore the place off--drank our overpriced drinks and decided to have dessert having not learned our lesson. not wanting to hold up the group
i asked the server how long a soufflet would take - he assured me it would be quick as they are only in the MICROWAVE for about a minute or two.

so we didn't have dessert because at this point we were laughing to hard.
iva had a mediocre and just plain awful visit to this place and well why would i even give them a chance for strike 3
are they even trying? do people fall for this ploy -- save your money leave space at zed for unknowing tourists who like to get ripped off

great start to a long weekend...

I was there last night with a friend who was to book a party. I showed up fairly early so I went to the bar. I was on my phone when I sat down. The bartender made eye contact and winked, acknowledging I was on my phone. Once I was off my phone he approached shortly after. He asked how my day was and offered to check my jacket for me. I asked for the wine list and he had it already and a glass a water. Perfect! The shiraz he suggested was just what I needed. I was still chilly when I received my wine. He noticed and gave me a sample of their hot chocolate to help warm up. Yum! That is an instant hit! When my friend arrived he was just as polite. We ordered the sliders, they were ok. They also sent us a sample of their grilled mahi which was yummy and moist, not over cooked. Anyway, the bartender is what made my first visit a great. Neil O , sorry if I spelled it wrong, was absolutely great. Very genuine. Very knowledgeable with the menu and history of the building. His shift ended while we were still there. He came on the other side and chatted with us for 10-15 minutes. Just wanted to say thanks to Neil O for the great evening. I will definately be back!!! See you soon!!!

Second Time and Again Great
By vegultra from Gold Coast, October 21, 2008

Went here the first time for a party. No problem getting up or dealing with bouncers. I guess if you are nice they are nice. Act like a jack or a brat and you will get the same treatment. Went there a second time for my anniversary last week to eat with another couple. Great food for both meat eaters, veggies and vegans (me). The drinks were great, service great and the food wonderful.

It seems like the only problems others had was with the "bar/club" aspect of the place but again my friends and I had no problems. There was about 15 plus in our early to mid 30s.

DON'T GO.

11 of us went for a work celebration. Ridiculously SLOW SERVICE. They were stingy with their food. Basically, had the verbatim experience as Chicago1977 on 9/5, so I won't go into that detail. However, I wasn't as impressed with the food. Also, we didn't go upstairs. With SOO many great places to eat in Chicago, I won't go there again.

My husband and I visited Zed 451 last night for drinks, as it was so beautiful outside and I knew they had a roof deck. It was lovely!! I ordered a pineapple martini and a long island, and both of them were awesome. What a lovely deck too -just a great space to chill, I bet its amazing during the day too. I'm definitely going back asap!!! As long as it doesn't start snowing soon...
