The Palm/Swissotel Chicago: User Reviews
$30.00 for salmon with nothing else on the plate appears to be expensive. $14.00 for carrott cake is also alot. The piece of cake was too large, could have fed four people.

I forgot to mention that, when ordering, I asked for a glass of pinot noir. Well, that (small) glass was $16. Okay, now I recognize that glasses of wine continue to increase in price, but at $8-12 for a glass I was feeling like I was being taken advantage of, and at $16 I feel like I've been gutted. It wasn't especially good wine. It wasn't an upscale wine by any stretch. It was just your basic, serviceable pinot. And when I can go to Sam's or the Winde Discount Center and get a kick-butt bottle for less than $16, the notion of paying $16 for an anemic glassful makes me cringe.

Hands-down, The Palm in the Swissotel was my favorite steak place, and I think I did a pretty good job of convincing some friends and clients that it really did outshine Morton's, et al. But lately it's just awful. I mainly go there for lunch, but last night I went there with a colleague and a client. Ever since the former manager (Jeffrey) left, the place has been a pale reminder of what it had become. I loved the fried calamari appetizer. It had been my favorite in the city. Now, it's weak, weak, weak. And the steaks have been very so-so. Not tasty enough, and rarely cooked as ordered. Last night, I ordered the 16 ounce NY strip and it was passable, but looked awfully tiny. When paying the bill, I saw that I was given--and paid for the 12 ounce strip. No wonder. Boy, i was awfully specific about ordering the larger of the two NY strip offerings. That should't have been mucked up. I also ordered the creamed spinach, because, well, I love it. But bow they serve these anemic little portions that I could inhale in a flash, and since I had to share it will my colleague and client I had a whopping three forkfulls. I joined the "837 Club." I accrued almost $3,000 (dollars) points--so I have definitely eaten there a lot, but I just can't keep going there unless they get back on track. How could they have slipped so much? The only thing that seems to have remained constant is the deserts--which are huge and good--but it's my impression that they're shipped in from elsewhere, so i can hardly attribute their constancy to The Palm people. Bottom-line: Don't go there unless you hear that the food's substantially improving. Go, instead, to the Chop House, Fogo de Chao, Gibson's, etc.

Report This ReviewI dont know what these negative review are about! This place is great. I've been several times over the past 3 years and have had nothing but great experiences...the food is great, the service is always excellent and i've never been seated next to a crazy party! I recommend the swordfish and the keylime pie!
Report This ReviewThe food at The Palm was very average. The filet lacked a lot of flavor and was very dry. The sides were not that big and nothing great. The service was great, though and everyone was very nice. For the same price, you're better off going to Morton's for better food.
Report This ReviewI really like The Palm and absolutely love the quality of the steak. However, the seafood is horrible here. Two of my friends ordered the crab cakes and they were bad, bad, bad!!. The Shrimp Scampi is another disappointing dish. They were cooked cocktail shrimps. The size of the shrimps was very small and the presentation was even worse, also no flavor whatsoever. I will come back for the steak but I would ablsoutely would warn anybody about the seafood at The Palm. The service was good.
