Total Waste of Time and Money
By Steve Z from Edgewater, February 8, 2009

Overall rating:

From the time we got out of the car this was not going well. To start with we had to go inside and ask the manager where the valet guy was to take our car, he finally showed up about ten minutes later. Service was slow which didn't make sense since the restaurant was not busy. The meals were not brought to the table at the same time, so three of us stared at our food until the other two meals arrived about 5 minutes later. We ordered coffee that was served with skim milk instead of cream. We were told the deserts that came with the specials we ordered were out and had to be substituted. Our child was served a sundae in a bowl that was big enough for the entire table because we were told the smaller bowls they normally use were out. To top it all off they overcharged us, and we didn’t catch it until we got home. Considering how slow businesses are in this economy, wouldn't you think they would start doing a better job of taking care of customers? A total waste of $400.00.

Not a good place for Happy Hour
By Social Butterfly from north side, January 14, 2008

The $1.95 happy hour appetizers drew me in. I planned an after work gathering and requested to reserve a table for 8 in advance. I was told that they would not reserve tables in the bar, but that seating at that time of day/number of people would not be a problem. When we got there, all of the seats in the bar were taken and my group had to sit next to the revolving door (on a cold chicago eve), that is actually like a small annex to the bar and feels more like a displaced waiting room than bar. The service was extremely slow. We waited over 25 min per round of beverages, and our server kept forgetting drinks. The charges on the bill did not match those listed on the menu, on more than 2 items. Perhaps this was due to the fact that the prices go up after 6 pm, but that we placed our orders well before then. When the inflated bill finally arrived, we paid in part cash, part credit. This caused more problems. Ugh. This was not a good start to the weekend. The overall ambience is more like a 4, but it only gets a 2 for being seated in the "annex." I will give management a shot at keeping me as a customer after I make some phone calls, but I will never consider this a good place for happy hour.

Just plain bad
By Drew from Lincoln Park, December 17, 2007

With all the restaurants in Chicago I wouldn't go here. Want fish? Go to Joe's Stone Crab or any number of other places in Chicago. Steaks? Not here! It's not in a good location, service was just so-so, and the food was nothing to write home about. Please try other places in the area.

A great restaurant off Rush, but this second venue in the city is horrible. Very uncomfortable. On 3 different occassions we have been completely ignored. Quote: "Did you seat yourself?" No, You seated us. "Oh, that's right!". Sadly, this location is FOR TOURISTS ONLY. If you're a local, they will burn you, because they don't care. If you are from out of town, this place is for you. Non-existent service tarnishes this place. There are many great restaurants in the city. Let this one go out of business.

Recently ate at this restaurant with a small group of friends. Our seafood was fresh and well-prepared. The atmosphere was very cosey....loved the glass city scape. Unfortunately the service at this location was below par. It took almost 10 minutes to be greeted by our waiter and another 15 minutes to be served our drinks. The waiter was unfamiliar with what each of the entrees came with and did not volunteer to go find out. The waiter also asked us if we wanted more coffee, but then never returned to our table. Given the vast array of restaurant choices in Chicago, we won't be going back to this particular restaurant any time soon.

I love the fact that the menu changes daily--you know the fish is fresh. I also love being able to see the desserts before we order them. It makes it much easier to choose one to share or individuals. Oftentimes the desserts are smaller/larger than described. I have to say though, that the best part of the meal was our server. His name was Francisco. What a professional! He was extremely knowledgable about all the menu and bar items. He was very polite and never hovered over us, but was there exactly when we needed him. He is the kind of waiter you expect in a four-star restaurant (even though M&S is not considered 4-star). At a restaurant, you can usually count on the food to be good, but service is always a toss-up. I know the food is good here, but the service is awesome! A restaurant with great food AND great service is definitely worth going back to!

A great experience!! My boyfriend and I stopped there before a show and had a great time. Our server, Bret, helped us in our selections and made the menu that much easier for us. We will definitely be back.

I highly recommend the happy hour! The menu items really are $1.95, and though the items can change seasonally, they are generally delicious. Plus, you receive a substantial portion of food for the money you pay--like the 1/2 lb cheeseburger & fries or the fish tacos w/rice. Service is ok; the bar area can get crowded and it is possible to lose track of your server. At the same time, although they expect you to order drinks, there is not a lot of pressure to do so. I go there whenever I can for an affordable good time and great munchies.
