McCormick & Schmick's: User Reviews
I had a really bad experience yesterday. I ordered a salmon lunch entree that had so little salmon that I had to literally look for it on the dish. There were also a few raspberries and the rice was soggy. It was horrible. I thought it must be some kind of joke. When I asked the waiter why there was so little salmon on the plate, he was very sarcastic and mean in his reply. The service was also horrible. I got cheated and my friend who was there with me agreed as well. The prices are also too high for what they offer. If you want good food for good value forget this place.

We sat in one of the four private enclaves, so we didn't experience very much of the ambiance. The food was very good, but a little pricey. Definitely try the upside down apple pie.

Someone should tell the waitresses that it isn't "freindly" or "cute" to call female diners "sweetie" or" sweetheart".

We went here for Father's Day. I ordered a club soda and the bottle was plunked down on the table for me to open and pour. It exploded all over, and I wondered why I was pouring my own beverage at an allegedly upscale restaurant. The restaurant itself was freezing the entire time, and despite the fact that they said they turned the A/C down, it was still sub-zero. Then they gave us a hunk of bread for four people that should have been for one or two - it was not cut at all so we had to tear it apart, which was a disaster. I ordered the Gold Coast Trio - shrimp, scallops and salmon. First of all, they didn't have any baked potatoes. Then, the waitress came back and said they were also out of mashed potatoes. The meal came, and I got two mediocre shrimp, two scallops and a couple bites of salmon with four tiny asparagus stalks, one little carrot, and three unseasoned new potatoes. Overall, the value was not good and the food was just average. There are SO many better restaurants in Chicago with better value for your money - I will definitely not be going back here.

I have been to McCormick & Schmick's on numerous occasions in numerous cities, and every experience was an enjoyable one except for this location. The biggest problem with this location is the service. We had to make each of our requests numerous times before the server responded, if he even bothered to respond at all. My date ordered steak MEDIUM WELL and it was served MEDIUM RARE. I ordered Mahi Mahi, which had numerous preperation options on the menu, and they brought me the alternative preparation from what I ordered. With numerous locations in the Chicagoland area, I would highly recommend that you try one of the other locations if you are thinking about dining at this restaurant.

We stopped in for lunch today. Service could not have been better or friendlier. The seafood Cobb salad and grilled salmon was very well prepared and the French fries were maybe the best I've had in quite a while.
Report This ReviewWE went there with 2 adults and 2 children, the restaurant was full so we were directed to the bar which was relatively empty and we sat for a while before being offered menus and our drink order was taken, it took 15 minutes to the drinks and then we sat for another 20 minutes and watched the server ask others if the wanted to order even though they came in after us. We had asked for a childrens menus and even though she agreed to bring them she never did. I eventaully went up to her and asked her for the bill which was for the drinks, I paid it and left. Service is lacking in this nice place and its a shame people just cannot handle the small things like giving a menu and taking an order.
It was upsetting to say the least.
Went on a Sunday for the Lobster special but unfortunately we failed to call prior to our visit and the deal was not applicable as it was Father's Day so it cost about double. Didn't get the fries but some very underdone asparagus and carrot accompaniment. Service was so slow that we begged for more dinner rolls. Its a shame as the atmosphere is great but more attention needs to be given to the kitchen and wait staff. I can't recommend this and hope the new location is more up to par.
Report This ReviewThe fresh seafood in the restaurant is simply amazing, rainbow trout, pecan-crusted tilapia...excellent.
Happy hour is best value in the city, mussels are decent. Can get very packed on weeknights, as would be expected.
Report This ReviewWent here for a Sunday dinner. The restaurant was nicely appointed and clean but that is about all the good I can say. Hostess staff was not friendly, after we were seated the hostess continually ran into our table shaking it as she sat other guests. The food was over priced and not a very good value for the money spent. Can you believe they charge over three dollars for a fountain drink? Moderately expensive dinners should be better quality than this. Even the clam chowder was nothing special. I will not return to this restaurant. There are way too many other very good seafood restaurants in Chicago too choose this one. It was overpriced and the food was not worth the money spent.
