The sea food was prepared without care, potato starch was used in the broth for the mussels; please read the small print before purchasing anything. I will never return to the establishment. Impossible to rate the experience other than zero for all categories.

the service here is SO bad. II've tried three times now and every time I think the service gets worse. The last time I came here, I sat at the bar and the female bartender was extremely rude. As for the food, I guess it is mediocre at best. Avoid this place!

This place is terrible! First of all, we got seated in a booth in the back of the restaurant, which would have been fine if it didn't feel like we were eating in a dark cave. The lighting inside the restaurant is awful.....it is so dark that you can barely read the menu. Then the food came out and our dining experience only got worse....I ordered the seafood rotini and not only was the dish bland, but 2 out of the 3 clams were uncooked (so undercooked that the shell didn't even open!!). My boyfriend ordered the shrimp scampi and added a lobster tail as his side. For $23, you'd expect more than a tasteless, dried out, subpar (if that) piece of lobster. Not worth the money.....I would never recommend this restaurant to anybody.

The shrimp was luke warm, the ("we're known for our fries") fries were limp and greasy and the scallops were way too soft. And the thick wine glass held about two sips of wine. Other than that, it was fine!

Recently, I went to a website (Foodler.com) and placed a delivery order from King Crab. 1 1/2 hours later, I received a phone call from a representative of King Crab telling me that not only was my food not made, but that they did not have one of the items I had ordered on their menu anymore and that I would have to place another order. Bottom Line: Bad Service and No Accountability = Poor Restaurant Experience.

My wife and I stopped in before attending the Stepenwolf and boy we were disappointed. So much so that we couldn't wait to get to the theatre to wolf down some cookies!
The decor was nice but the staff and ambiance made it fell like a morgue. Evidently personality is not a pre-requisite to working there.
We started off with some soup which was good. The gumbo was spicy and hearty and the chowder was tasty. We should have payed the bill and left then. The appetizers were below average. Shrimp...good size and fresh. However, the crab cake was awful.
Then came the main course. I got the swordfish, which came grilled with some very bland sauce on top. I have felt softer hockey pucks than my fish. The broccoli was fresh but had absolutely no taste. And the rice pilaf tasted like Uncle Ben's. My wife had the tilapia, which might have been the worst tasting fish we have ever tried. Our stomach were revolting at the taste of that fishy and mushy piece of fish. Her potatoes were prepared with aboslutely no creativity. I thought my taste buds were on strike!
With no alcohol and no dessert our bill was $90. What a disgrace! We stopped at Tomato Head on the way home and had an incredible slize of pizza AND dessert for $12.
Pocket the $90...save up another $90 and treat yourself to a real fish place and go to Joe's Steak and Stone Crab or one of the many other fish joins in the city. Don't be fooled that this place is any good just because it's in a hip neigborhood.

This is one of my favorite summer spots because they have the best soft shell crab and offer 4 different preparations. Luckily my boyfriend, not a big seafood person, loves their filet mignon. The atmosphere is casual and fun, the waitstaff is friendly and professional.
Report This ReviewAfter watching an episode of the restaurant on 'Check Please' my boyfriend and I decided to drive into the city to check it out. I have never tasted such fresh seafood for such an amazing deal. We sat at the bar and enjoyed shrimp and oysters for 65 cents each followed by a succulent 1 lb Lobster tail. Everything was amazing from the atmosphere to the friendly waitstaff. Well worth sitting in the traffic for...we will definetely be back!
Report This Reviewi have absolutely no idea what scott is talking about! My husband and I love the food. It's always fresh and tasty (especially the tuna and salmon). The waitstaff has got to be the friendliest in Chicago.
Report This ReviewYou cannot beat the $18.95 king crab dinner on Sunday and Monday. I think what they do best is steam shellfish and pile it on a plate for a reasonable price. The staff is also very friendly. The best mai tais!
