Hugo's Frog Bar: User Reviews
I went here last night for my wife's birthday. Things started very well with some excellent martinis and continues rolling with the steamed frog legs. It was my first time ever having that entree and it was pretty tasty, although I am not sure if I will try them again without some breading. We also shared the Shrimp Cocktail (huge shrimp!) and the Crab Cake (tasty, but a tad dry) and concluded the main course with the Swordfish (very good). The icing on the cake (literally) was the HUGE carrot cake cupcake desert. For $6 we got 3 enormous cupcakes. We split 1 and took the other 2 home for a treat on another day. Definitely enjoyed our experience at Hugo's in Downtown Naperville.

This is a fantastic lunch spot. On weekdays they offer $1 salads and soups during lunchtime. They also offer small versions of burgers, crispy fish and other sandwiches for around $3. I really enjoyed my lunch and felt that it was a great bargain.

The owner of this place needs to come out and observe. Every time I come here, there is some kind of problem. This particular time, my lunch filet with mashed potatoes and green beans came with white rice !! ick. Then, one of our party ordered potato skins - in the afternoon, in the bar while watching football on a Sunday. They were out of potato skins!! Also, three large flat screen tvs - two of which did not work. Manager took care of it by climbing a ladder in a full restaurant and poked around in the ceiling. Then, left the ladder there. Bathrooms were filthy. This place needs some major management rehauling. I love the loop location. I keep trying this one when visiting the family and every single time there is some bizaar misstep with the help and the food.

This restaurant you really must try.
Great location in the centre of downtown Naperville.
Valet parking is also available if required.
The decor here was fab, I think we spent most of the night looking around us.
Large extensive menu, mostly fish but with a good choice of steaks.
The food and service was excellent and certainly worth a visit.
Expect noise as the restaurant was terribly busy.

This is the spot if you want surf and turf and at a reasonable price. The food service and ambiance is second to none. The Gibsons did not skimp here just because it's not Downtown Chicago. This is by far my favorite place in Naperville and is right up there with the top seafood/steak houses that I have dined at throughout the US. Another amazing thing is their soup and salads are 2 bucks a piece.... Cummon it is so dirt cheap for a bowl of clam chowder!!!!!! And the taste fogeddabboddit A+++

I thought we loved this place inside in the winter - we even love it more in the summer sitting outside in their very pretty patio. So peaceful and relaxing and the same great food!
Report This ReviewHugo's is a rip off for oysters. We were charged $24.00 for a dozen oysters that were the size of a nickel. When I complained to the waiter he even agreed they were awfully small and went and got the manager. The manger came and apologized for their size said he'd mention it to the cook. He said he only charge us half price. Even at half price they were not worth the price for a nickle size bit of oyster.
We will not be dining at Hugo's again
This review is mainly for lunch at the bar area. Prices are way less than for dinner and unless you must have huge meals this is fantastic. We have been here many times and think highly of the waitstaff, the fun menu (mini sandwiches, soup and salad for one dollar)and great fish with rice and green beans for very reasonable prices. Love the hours - open all the time starting at 11 - no need to worry when to go. Great atmosphere as well. We are hooked!
Report This ReviewTerrific atmosphere brings in capacity-plus crowds. Great martinis, friendly bartenders and very attentive staff. Unimaginative, TGIF style menu with New York City prices. Underdone calamari, watery crab legs and tiny, chewy t-bone (everything ala carte, $215 for 3) will not brings us back to this very pleasant spot, nor will the 45 minute wait (with reservations).
Report This ReviewOver the 4th of July we had company in from out of town and went to Hugo's for dinner. I never write reviews but felt it necessary so other's don't waste their money. I order tuna with Wasabi sause and my wife ordered another fresh fish dish. Neither entry came with a side just the fish. Tuna is to be seared which it was but it was stone cold. Furthermore I got the Wasabi sause (the green paste) but it was not mixed with soy sause nor was soy sause offered. Needless to say poor preparation. I have had this dish many times in other restaurants prepared with the sause either on the side or spread over the fish. Needless to say I was very dissappointed.
