A great new seafood place from Harry Caray's

I went to Holy Mackerel for my birthday last month took full advantage of the Surf & Turf for Two special that they are currently running. It is an outstanding value and you will definitely not leave the place hungry. The ambiance at Holy Mackerel is a 180 from Harry Caray's (although they share a communal kitchen where you can order off each menu) and is more of a nautical, almost tropical feel. The staff was very accommodating for some tweaks I wanted from the menu and made the overall dining experience very enjoyable. Holy Mackerel is a great addition to the Harry Caray's dining group.

Good food but...

The food quality, preparation and presentation was ver good, although one of our five guests was served the Sockeye Salmon cold. The biggest disappointment were the drinks. Two of us ordered Glenlivet Scotch neat, and were served the smallest drinks we have ever seen in any Chicago restaurant. One person orderd a Rob Roy, and it hardly had any scotch in it. To top all of this, the prices on the internet were lower than the prices on the menu.

we went for Easter dinner, had to leave a credit card to make reservation, arrived and was promptly seated that's when service ENDED! Waiter had to be asked to remove extra place setting & only appeared, to take our order and leave our bill. Did not refill water glasses, exchange silverware , NOTHING!! Will not return! Food was GREAT

Holy Mackerel

Not impressed. Out of 4 dinners, two were below average. The filet mignon was dry, and we waited for the steak knife, for quite a while. And, we were done with dinner by the time the second soft drink arrived. The sole crust was soggy, and overpowered the fish. The snapper was very good as was the yellowfin tuna. I would not come back. For the price, every offering should be excellent not 2 out of 4. We didn't wait for dessert.

Holy Mackerel is outstanding

Holy Mackerel provided a superb combination of outstanding food, great service, sedate non-cluttered ambiance, and a good wine selection for a thoroughly enjoyable evening with work colleagues and customers. The fresh seafood selection offered variety - I chose the Parmesan crusted sole which was fabulous. We shared lobster mash (potatoes) and crab cakes. Everything was perfect.

I dined at Harry Caray's (adjacent to Holy Mackerel) this weekend and stopped in to see this place, it's gorgeous! The design is modern with sleek vintage photos/mureals on the wall. I took a 'to go' menu home, it is reasonably priced for such an upscale looking environment. I can't wait to dine here...finally a fresh seafood place in the suburbs!
