I went to Tre Kronor with a large group and ate in the upstairs dining area. With the different paintings hanging on the wall coupled with the soft lighting and low music, the atmosphere was comfortable and cozy with a great family feel to it. We came for breakfast and placed our orders with our helpful waitress. I ordered a hot chocolate and eggs with toast and the potato hash. A very typical and plain breakfast. Our waitress came with our drinks promptly. The hot chocolate was nothing spectacular or note worthy. Tre Kronor is not known for their spectacular drinks so this was your typical hot chocolate that could be found at any restaurant. I took a bite of my friends cinnamon roll which was drier than ones that I've had from Ann Sather's. The slightly sour lemon glaze did not have enough moisture for the. The hash was great and the eggs were eggs.

While Tre Kronor is no Ann Sather, its atmosphere is cozy, friendly and low-key, its private room upstairs is attractive and well-lit, and its prices are reasonable. The restaurant was completely prepared for our large group of 25. Several long tables were set up for us in their private room, which had multiple windows and pretty, colorful oil paintings. Our waitress took our orders accurately and with a smile. I started my breakfast with a mug of hot chocolate, which was fine but didn't have a very unique taste. I then had the cinnamon roll, which wasn't to my taste because of the small amount of frosting and the too-strong lemon flavor. I was expecting the Swedish pancakes to have more taste, but the lingonberries added some sweetness to the dish. If you're looking for authentic Swedish food and a laid-back, homey feel, then Tre Kronor is the place for you.

Tre Kronor is a quaint little restaurant on Foster with an inviting atmosphere and delightful food. I went with a large group of people, which can often make the visit unsatisfactory, but not in this case. We were led into a dining room with a homey ambiance, then up a narrow staircase into an upstairs dining room, which shared the atmosphere.
I went for breakfast, and would recommend it to anyone. Being at a Swedish restaurant, I thought it only appropriate to order Swedish pancakes, as well as the famous cinnamon roll. The Swedish pancakes were great, served with lingonberries, a Swedish treat. The cinnamon roll was different. With a lemon pepper flavor, it was definitely unique. I would recommend it to all, but it definitely an acquired taste.
The ambiance, food, and service were all worth the rain we had to walk through to get there.

As I came with a large group, we were led upstairs into a private dining area. I didn't expect them to have a reserved space as the restaurant looks quite small from the outside.
For breakfast, I order a Swedish pancake along with eggs and hash browns. As with most restaurants, the eggs can't really be ruined, but the hash browns had a nice twist. They were actual piece of potatoes that were browned and seasoned nicely, a spin from the regular oil drenched shredded potatoes. The pancakes were not the usual buttermilk flapjacks, but rather crepes. The crepes were spectacular with a bit of powdered sugar and maple syrup. I also tried a cinnamon bun and personally found them to be dry and bitter.
Besides the cinnamon buns, I recommend going to this restaurant if you are in need of an authentic Swedish meal. The menu itself not large, but still offers many great foods.

Although the restaurant appears to be small from the outside, the restaurant comfortably seats large parties and is in fact quite roomy. The food I felt was only at par and for the most part overpriced. I remember spending 8-10 dollars for one egg, a Swedish crepe, and two links of sausage. I can definitely say I've been to better breakfast diners and restaurants. The highlight of the breakfast was definitely the crepes. I would recommend that if you go to the restaurant, don't go for breakfast, but go for the Swedish pastries and crepes. Be wary of the cinnamon buns and be ready for a lemony twist that may be too much for your taste buds. All in all, the restaurant atmosphere was quite pleasant and an enjoyable experience. However, going only once in a while would be enough to quench my thirst for a homemade "Swedish" breakfast.

I've been to Tre Kronor...

I've been to Tre Kronor for breakfast a few different times for breakfast and I've always enjoyed it. It has a very warm and cozy atmosphere that I love. I generally like the service because the staff is very nice. However, it does get busy sometimes during breakfast. I've never been disappointed by their bleu cheese and spinach omelet. It's very fluffy and not the least bit overcooked. I love their Danishes because there's usually a wide selection and they are homemade. Their cinnamon rolls are very good as well, with lemony icing instead of the usual sweet icing. Overall, I think that Tre Kronor is a nice little place to have a good breakfast. It's also very reasonably priced (I don't think that I've ever spent more than $12 on a single meal there, and all their food is very filling). If you're in the North Park neighborhood, definitely give Tre Kronor a try.

I was seated right away and noticed how lively the atmosphere was. The place was full of customers, and my first impression of the place was that this was a restaurant that all the locals went to everyday for a good meal. I ordered the sausage breakfast plate and received it less than 10 minutes later, which wasn't bad considering I was in a party of about 25. What stood out about my order was it had a very home-style taste to it, already complimenting the home-style atmosphere of the restaurant. My order was just perfect, which made up for the slightly high price, so it was worth it; I'd definitely go there again next time I'm in the area.

I visited Tre Kronor with a class of about 25 students for breakfast. We were a large party but were quickly seated in their upstairs dining area. The service at Tre Kronor was fast and friendly, adding to the restaurants cozy family feel. The menu is fairly small, but there are a variety of different dishes that can satisfy anyone's tastes. My meal, the mushroom quiche was extremely good, served with fresh fruit on the side. The crust was rich yet light while the filling was flavorful but not over salted, as is the case at many other restaurants. Along with my meal, I ordered one of Tre Kronor's cinnamon rolls. Not the traditional cinnamon roll, this roll's icing has a slight hint of lemon. Some may find the lemon a bit too strong, however those who have a decent tolerance for sour should be pleased. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good breakfast.

By Erin from Chicago, IL, January 10, 2007

I visited Tre Kronor for breakfast with a large group of people. The staff was very accommodating; we were taken upstairs for seating. Even with a large group, the waiters were attentive; we ordered quickly, and were served without a long wait. The restaurant felt comfortable and intimate-perfect for an early morning breakfast. I had an omelet stuffed with spinach and blue cheese. The egg was nice and fluffy, and there was a yummy amount of both ingredients. I also stole a bit of a friend's cinnamon roll. It was delicious. Their cinnamon rolls aren't the typical American roll; they're very lemony, which gives them a nice kick. Overall, I wouldn't say the meal I had was extraordinary, although it was good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect, however, and I will definitely go back. I recommend Tre Kronor to anyone looking for a relaxing breakfast experience.
