Not impressed

We went here for Dinner and thought the dinner was overpriced for the food. My husband had the Meatballs which are supposed to come with Garlic mash potatoes, which had no garlic in them. I had the duck which was supposed to come with some sort of sausage, no sausage came with it. We had a few desserts, which some tasted stale. The service was excellent though, so no complaints there. Food is mediocre. I heard Guy Fieri came here but he had the brunch, so maybe that's when I should have come.

Authentic Swedish restaurant!
By Gina54 from Lincoln Park, August 8, 2009

As a half Swed, I was so impressed by Tre Kronor! I went for brunch but cannot wait to get back lunch and dinner! I really felt like I was in Sweden. I've been to Sweden and the food was almost identical. The service was good, the value exceptional and I love that the serving sizes are normal! I eat 1/4 of my plate in normal restaurants and was able to eat almost all here! It's like the portion sizes in Europe or the US in the 70's.

I highly recommend this place. I am positive this will be a new addition to my top 10 favorites in Chicago. I cannot wait to get back.

No response to poor service
By duranie4life from Montclare, June 19, 2009

The food here was always consistent. I say WAS because I will never return to this restaurant. The last time I was there the staff became overwhelmed by the lunch crowd and another waitress "helped out" our waitress. When I asked for my side dish she said, "It's coming. I only have two hands." Totally uncalled for!; I only said something because she wasn't our regular waitress and I didn't know if she was aware that I had something on the side. I wrote a letter to the owners about this dining experience, but they never responded to me by phone or in writing. Although limited in number, this isn't the only Scandinavian restaurant in town and I will seek out another with better service from now on.

great neighborhood restaurant
By mclift from north park, June 15, 2009

Tre kroner is a fabulous neighborhood restaurant. The food is great, the service is wonderful and the wine situation (no corking fee) is nice for those who are on a budget but appreciate good wine with a meal. The outdoor area is already quite pleasant, but plans to landscape will make for an even better outdoor eating experience.

Best Corned beef hash ever
By George A from southsider by birth, north by marriage, November 18, 2007

I first went here with my wife and mother-in-law. Coming from the SSide I expected to get a good meal but also get ripped off. Not here. I had a fish plate and loved it. Price was right .
The breakfast is great. Another review said the portions are alittlt shy, I have to agree a little. I work construction in the city, so I have been to every hole-in the-wall breakfast joint that has "great corned beef hash". Tre Kronor has the best. portion a little small but pancakes on the side make up for it. Better than Manny's deli on Roosvelt

Went to Tre Kronor for the first time and loved it! We were seated upstairs promptly. The service was attentive and quick, Our coffee cups were never empty and our food came to the table quickly. The corn beef hash was excellent and the eggs cooked perfectly. My dining partner had the waffles which were served with an abundance of fresh strawberries and bananas. Will go back for sure!

We went on a Sunday...
By Jane from Lansing, IL, March 7, 2007

Overall rating:

We went on a Sunday expecting a wait which was fine. When we did get a table, our order took 30 minutes to receive. There were three of us. After our table was cleaned off, it took another 20 minutes to get our check. The service was terrible. The food was good, the portions small, and the price high. $50.00 for three people for breakfast. I will definitely keep on going to Ann Sather's when we have a taste for Swedish food.

I stopped in for breakfast...
By Matt from chicago, IL, February 9, 2007

I stopped in for breakfast arriving hungry and eventually leaving the same way. While the service was excellent, the portions were very small for the price. I had the hash & eggs which which was over cooked as the corn beef was crunchy. The coffee was great as was the orange juice, eggs and toast. Certainly not worth $14! I don't mind spending a little extra for something a little extra which was not the case in my experience. If your on Foster looking for breakfast and pass Tre Kornor, keep driving east, your getting close to Ann Sather's.
