Best espresso in town
By Jackson from Lincoln Park, November 23, 2008

I come here frequently, and have since it opened near my house. True, it can be a bit casual but the servers and counter help are generally nice and are often faced with impatient LnPk yups and bad-mannered DePaul kids who can't make up their minds what to order. BP's food is homemade, clean, and good. Soups are particularly good.

The coffee, sorry for those of you who don't know the good stuff, is IMHO very good. Not overroasted and burnt like Starbucks. I find the prices fair for Lincoln Park and the quality-price relationship positive. Nice owner who is there a lot, too, to oversee things.

good food, bad coffee, overpriced
By megan from lincoln park, August 5, 2008

i love the sandwiches here, but they are really overpriced. the quiche and baked omelettes are also good, but when they say "fresh fruit" as the side to the breakfast items...it is always two strawberries, and i am always surprised/ disappointed. what kind of a side is that? the coffee is also horrendous. i do like sitting around here bc it is on my walk home from depaul, but don't go for the service aa the staff forgets this is a coffee shop, not a new upscale restaurant.

Whatever

A friend recommended BP so I took my parents there after a play. We were all aghast at the service. The staff needs to get over themselves. I have been in middle school classrooms and dealt with less attitude.

Over it

I work close to this place and usually like to treat myself to a lunch once a week, even though it is ridiculously overpriced. The last two times I've gone here I've waited over 20 minutes for the hummus plate- no cooking needed, so why so long? I was the only one in line, and the cashier was on the phone. No one acknowledged my presence and said, "I'll be with you in just a minute", it was as if I the customer did not exist. I even got smart this last time and called my order in ahead of time, still waited around FOREVER! This place and the workers are so full of themselves. Get over it, it's Chicago. There are a bzillion 'ma and pa' places that are much better and more deserving of your time and money!

wrong sandwich? who cares!
By kjggx2 from Ukrainian Village, November 28, 2007

I was expecting something different based on all the reviews but this place is really very nice. Huge menu selection and quality items. The atmosphere (upstairs especially) is perfect for reading/studying. The artwork on the walls could use some help. I ordered a white hot chocolate which was absolutely wonderful, however, i didn't receive the sandwich I ordered. The one I ordered had hummus (East of Eden - great names for menu items) and the one i received was just more of a veggie sandwich. I really can't complain too much because it was still really good. If I lived closer I'd be here much more often.

I can't say enough good things about this place! The food is always wonderful (without exception) whether you eat in or have it delivered. The ingredients are fresh and nourishing! Excellent service by really nice genuine folks! Try the Quiche of the Day - doesn't matter what it is because it's always superb!!!

I went here for the first time last weekend and loved it. I agree that the coffee was a little rough (lots of grounds in mine), but the sandwich I had (the Secret Garden) was fantastic and huge. I also had the biggest rice krispie treat I've ever seen - yum! The atmosphere was calm but very crowded. I'm looking forward to go back when the weather is nice to try the outdoor patio.

This place is very cute and would be a nice alternative to Starbucks, but the coffee sucks and so does the attitude. I recently ordered a decaf at BPC and it was awful. It must have been sitting around for hours (I guess they don't serve much decaf). I told my server about the bad coffee and asked if she could replace it with a good fresh cup - she told me she would have to charge me again. Now I understand why Starbucks is so successful - I have never had a bad cup of coffee there.
