Seasoned restaurateur Branko Podrumedic teams up with chef Andre Christopher at this Irving Park restaurant with Romanian flair. Though Podrumedic has served traditional Romanian fare in Chicago for decades (you may remember Little Bucharest’s earlier incarnation on Ashland Avenue, or more recently, Continental Cafe at this same address), this spot offers an updated take on Romanian, Serbian and Hungarian flavors. Christopher, who’s known for his contemporary American style (he was most recently at the Grocery Bistro), blends Eastern European ingredients with lighter, modern presentations--think "gazpacho-style" tomato borscht and goulash-inspired braised short ribs with truffled gnocchi and poached cherries. The idea, says Podrumedic, is to make Romanian food more accessible. And speaking of accessibility, get this: Podrumedic’s limo service will pick you up and deliver you to the door. Inside, expect a modern bistro look with subtle but vibrant Romanian touches throughout the front bar, back dining room and charming outdoor patio.
