Horrible food

I have eaten at Tiffin over the past 5 years and the food has recently been terrible. I got take out a few days ago and the food was completely bland. We will not be going back.

We have been going to Tiffin for years. We have tried other Indian restaurants but nothing compares. We always come back to Tiffin!!!! I'd give it a 10.

Great food - horrendous service

The food at Tiffin is great, the decor very nice, too. The service, however, is THE WORST I have ever encountered. The waiter refused to bring the food out together, and had to be chased down (someone had to physically get up to find him) for a glass of water or that naan we ordered. He was, at the time, busy chatting with people at another table - just passing the time of day. To get the check, someone had to go find a manager. This sort of thing happened on two separate occasions, which prompted me to write a letter to Tiffin's general manager. He did write me back, but rather than an apology, his response was one of the most sarcastic letters I've ever read.

Even though the food is great, I will never set foot in this place again. IF you must go, try going for the buffet, when it's not so important to have a waiter doing his job.

Not what it should be

After reading the reviews and several recommendations from friends and co-workers we ventured into Tiffin this past Friday evening. No reservation necessary as we went early, pm, to avoid the so called weekend rush. Nice ambiance, great looking bar and first impressions were good. Drinks came quickly and we ordered the potato/chick pea patty/cake appetizer. The chick pea type relish on the side was awesome, they patty itself tasteless. Main course we ordered chicken bhuna, peas pilou, chicken tikka masala, peswari (number 11) and naan. The tikka was dreadful and quite honestly the sauce it was in could only have been described as Campbells Tomato Soup. The Bhuna had a nice taste but very little spice and the chicken on the bone was almost non-existent. Rice was just OK nothing special, Naan was very good and papadoms were crispy without grease. I wouldn't say it was too expensive but for what we got it was! I've been eating Indian food for 30 plus years and I have to say that after our recent move to Lincoln Square the search for a Gaylords replacement (on Clark in the city) still continues. Tiffin will not be revisited.

This is great Indian food. The service is polite and attentive. And for the price, you will be sleeping for weeks, because of the food coma. Couldn’t stop eating.

I love Indian food, and Tiffin is consistently excellent and head and shoulders above other places I've been to in Chicago. The service is a little hit andmiss, but the food is outstanding!

Tiffin is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. The service is lackluster but for the price, the experience is great. I had the Bhuna Gosht which is most likely avoided by many non-Indians since on the menu it says it is goat. Anyway, it was really tasty both then and 3 days later when we reheated it. My husband was a little disappointed with his tandori chicken. However, I think it was mostly that he wished he had ordered something more adventurous. I will keep coming back for more tasty lamb...
