Worst deli in Chicago hands down
By Foodman11 from River North, September 6, 2009

I have been to Steve's 4 times. Each time I leave dissapointed and poor. The food is not good. They can't even do cream cheese right, the veggie cream cheese is disgusting. It seems that the main ingredient in it is carrot. The meat is "eh." The service is not good. And it is more expensive than the actual good deli's in town to boot. I only have been there more than twice because I live around the corner. But that is it, I have had it. I also have yet to meet anyone who thought this place was any good. I will give them this though - they are consistent. If you brought a friend there that was in town and wanted good Chicago deli, they should not be friends with you anymore.

Yummy!

I work in the same building as Steve's Deli my company has used them for catering in the past.
On my way in to work yesterday, I saw that they were open at 7:30am. I poked my head in thinking I'd just grab a cup of Julius Meinl coffe they serve, only to see they are now serving a breakfast buffet. It's awesome that you can eat french toast, eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, oatmeal, and fruit salad all for just $4.99!
*FYI: I got a coupon for a free dinner ask the cashier about it and their grab to go lunches.

My new favorite deli!

What's up with all the bad reviews? This place is great! Im a regular now and each time the servers are attentive and super sweet. I always have a ton of questions because they menu is pretty extensive and they are always very paitent and offer awesome recommendations. The resturant is squeaky clean My friend and i always split a sandwhich (they really are HUGE) and get sweet potatoe fries.. they are to die for here and a cup of cabbage soup... so yummy!!
My expierences here have been nothing but good. Im sure they have bad days like any other deli does cut em some slack!

Terrible service
By lrweitzman from river north, July 13, 2009

I have been to steve's deli many times hoping that after the kinks of running a restaurant have been worked out, the service would be better. Well I have to say, 9 months later, that the service is still terribly slow. It took over 30 min to get our food only to notice that the bacon was cold and not crispy leading me to believe it was sitting out for awhile while my waitress was chatting up a storm and forgetting about her other tables. In addition, it took over 10 minutes to receive my credit card back after paying for the bill. After being open for 9 months there is no reason the service should still be so terrible.

Lots of food & good quality but use a coupon
By RiverNorthResident from River North, July 10, 2009

My mom and I ate at Steve's last night for dinner. We used a coupon for buy one hot meal and get one free. Therefore, our dinner was reasonably priced, (without the coupon, I don't think I would be as excited). Our hot meals came with mass amounts of food - enough to take home over half our meals! I got the Roast Turkey (Thanksgiving-like) dinner; it came with choice of salad or soup, (I got the Diet Sweet & Sour Cabbage Soup - really tasty! Plus it came with a homemade bagel chip thing which was good), 2 large slices of fresh bread, and two side dishes. Monster amounts of grub, I swear!
My mom got some Chicken Cachitori thing and she loved it.
Our wattress was very nice - SUPER PATIENT! We asked a ton of questions because the menu is extensive and has items we never heard of before. The rest of the staff offered us samples at the counter and smiled, just super friendly.
Our meal came out within 20 minutes and was timed perfectly - just as we were finishing our soup.
I'd go back again and get the same meal if I had a coupon. Without a coupon the meal, (without drinks), would have easily been $35 for 2 people. Not a bad price, but the atmosphere at Steve's just makes me feel like it should be cheaper to eat there.
I want to go back again and try Steve's frozen yogurt and maybe a cupcake :)

Time Is Money
By LCC from River North, January 8, 2009

I have been to Steve's Deli 6 times now and yesterday was the first time it didn't take 30 minutes to get a simple item from the deli counter. Although, I love their south beach salad everything else is just OK at best and way too expensive. My point is that by the time you leave the place you have spent 20-30 minutes to get a below average meal for way too much money.

Get your act together...
By Southloopchick from South Loop, January 7, 2009

It's been a few months guys, and it's time to get your act together. Today was the third time in 4 weeks that I picked up food and my order was WRONG. We are not in the WB anymore...Chicago has millions of choices for people to eat. I would love nothing more than to see you succeed...but you have to get it together.

What a Struggle and too Pricey!
By Darius K. from Chicago, December 24, 2008

I have now eaten at Steve's 5 times, mostly due to location and my optimistic view that it can only get better. Unfortunately, every time I have gone the kitchen did not deliver. I order turkey they give me roast beef, I order the veggie omelet, they throw tons of cheese on it (there is no cheese listed on the menu), I order the lite-tuna salad plate and it's missing 50% of what is listed in the menu, I ask for new pickles and they give me old, I ask for turkey off the bone and they tell me they are out of turkey off the bone. While the servers are nice, the management is simply not working well. With so many complaints and constant appololiges by the waitstaff and wrong orders the kitchen is completely disorganized, understaffed and poorly trained. Avoid the cupcakes: they are huge but stored in a refrigerator and thus they are not moist and taste stale. Cupcakes should not be refrigerated (if they’re old then throw them out). This "deli" lacks rye bread with seeds! This is quite odd. Items are also way overpriced: 3 latkes are over $10.00 with tax and tip. They are free at Many’s!

I really liked this place! The food was really good. The server was very attentive to our large party, and having a new deli in Chicago is a real treat. The cabbage rolls were excellent!
