Sixteen: User Reviews
I went for lunch and had the lobster ravioli. They were good, but they only give 3. Mind you, they are not large, just normal sized. Two of us who had the ravioli, and the one who had the fish, had to ask for more bread because we were still hungry and also because the rest of our party felt like they were eating in front of us. The host of our lunch was embarassed.
The service was very poor. When asked what was good on the menu, the waiter responded "What do you like?" One person in our party asked for another diet Coke. Well over 10 minutes later, after all the plates were cleared the waiter brought it! Two people ordered the prix fixe which comes with dessert and the waiter never asked if anyone else wanted dessert or coffee.
For what it is worth, the others in my party were happy with their food but were not impressed overall. Great view, but in all, a disappointing experience.

My husband and I came to Sixteen for my birthday and our anniversary combined. We were told when we came that another couple had used our name and were already seated. It really bothered us that somehow they had used our name. How did that happen? We were then seated and put next to a crying baby...uggghh...not exactly what we expected for our special night out. Good food, nice staff and loved the decor..but it was not special at all to us. I would not come back or reccomend this restaurant to our friends. For $300, there are a million other places to eat that are equally as nice and would have probably made our night a little more special. Our experience, although I am sure was rare, made Sixteen no better than any other restaurant. It seemed a little too laid back for what we were expecting.

The one good thing I have to say about Sixteen is that our servers very good. For the most part they were nice and attentive. The hostess and staff that sit people by the bar and outside area were horribly rude and almost did not my boyfriend go out to the deck until our busboy confirmed we had a large dinner and bill. The buss boy was explaining to the hostess that we would like to see the deck and she said, “Sorry, no, they can not go out there.” At that point the busboy walked right past the hostess and let us go outside. We were very thankful that he allowed us to do that. We were able to enjoy the navy pier fireworks for all of 3 minutes. Why the hostess was beyond rude is a mystery to me. She could have at least explained why we could not go outside, instead she just said we were not allowed. I was horrified by her rudeness and I think you should take note of the staff you are employing. I am sure this is not the first time such an event has happened, and it will not be the last.
On to the food, I would say the food was mediocre at best. We started dinner with Scallops carpaccio with a lotus ring and radish salad. The scallops on their own were excellent, the sides that came with the scallops were terrible. The radish salad was dry and lacking flavor, the mysterious orange goo on the side tasted like left over fish parts ran through a blender.
On to the main course: I had the beef fillet duo and my boyfriend had the lobster canolli. The beef was very good, but the portions were very small. Now, I understand that the idea is to eat less, eat slow, and savor every minute and I can respect that. However, I thought the portions were shockingly small and I’m a petite person. The wheat bulgur side was too salty and therefore you could not even taste the red wine sauce.
My boyfriend’s dinner was covered in foam, yes foam. Again, being somewhat knowledgeable in the food realm I am aware of recent popularity of foams and how if used properly can add flavor to a dish. However this almond foam covered almost the entire plate and took away from the taste of the lobster, the foam was overpowering.
Overall this place was just about terrible. Do you love throwing your money down the toilet? IF so this is a great place for you!

"Our servers and managers were great, but the food selection was really pour for a $95/person brunch of mini burgers, chicken wings, sliders, over cooked pork, ribs, boiled corn, grocery store quality sushi, 4 choices of boring cheese. All of their dishes were pre-cooked in shafiing dishes except for an omelet station & dry pork loin carving station with a chef who had no idea what it was stuffed with nor the sauce they were serving with. We have been to many luxury hotel brunches at the same prices where the selection & quality of food "trumps" this restaurant by a long shot. Over price and under deliver!
This is our 4th time trying to find the value of Trump and am still searching. We will not go back for food, but their terrace bar opens Monday and we will be back for the over priced drinks and the amazing view."

Some of these bad reviews humor me because my experience was nothing like what some of these people are saying. First off, start to finish the service was excellent, personally I don't like feeling smothered by servers and I thought this place was right on point. Food wise, we started with a cheese sampling which was excellent (in fact my gf loved one so much the server took the pleasure to write it down along with another suggestion and told us where to get it), she got the veal and I got scallops - we both loved it. It was the right amount of food, in fact probably more than I expected. We also split a fantastic desert that was a perfect ending to our meal. All in all, I would go back again - our bill for an appetizer, two mains, 1 desert, and one $90 bottle of wine was $320 all in.
Report This ReviewWe went for Valentine's Day and had the 6-course menu with wine (him) and champagne (me), Both pairings were spot on. The room is beautiful with such a cool perspective of the surrounding buildings. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was well executed--I was so suprised that this was the best fish dish ever! The steak was well prepared but not super impressive. We may come back for the regular menu but we had a huge complaint: this "6-course" was really 3+ (for $125). We were served an amuse bouche which was almost substantial enough to be a course as listed. So why call it an amuse? The cheese mousse was presented as a palette cleanser (2 little dabs; definitely not a course as listed) and coffee/petit fours also was a "course" (not so!). The dessert was fabulous. The take home chocolates were excellent. Bread service was average. Too much Trump ego = menu inflation? It really rubbed us wrong in concept. Also, decreased the perceived value.
Report This ReviewBeautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view. Service was top notch, EXCEPT because the "menu changes daily" our server couldn't give much of a recommendation on anything. We thoroughly enjoyed every course except my dessert was bland and fell way short of expectations (hers was great). Yes, it was pricy, but that was expected.
Report This ReviewA great place to celebrate a special occasion. Pretty views of the lake and Michigan Ave. at dusk. The staff is very commodating and the food is out of this world! My husband's filet and my pork loin were the most tender, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cuts of meat we have ever had anywhere. The flavor combinations in the appetizers and entrees were impressive. And the wine list included a few options under $50, which was appreciated. We skipped dessert but enjoyed the complimentary sweets provided.
Report This ReviewYup, this place is overpriced, poor food and crappy service. Steak tasted microwaved (and I am being nice on that too), bill was way to high. Pair-ed win tasting offered cheap super sweet wines. Server just could not care, and forgot to do anything for a birthday meal. Want to pay a lot and get your money? try Alena.
Report This ReviewI just dined at Sixteen this evening for my one year anniversary. The two previous reviews had to be jealous competing restaurants because I has quite the opposite experience. We were immediately greeted and told by 4 different servers "Happy Anniversary". The specials were noted, drinks came out quickly and I must say the prime beef was unreal! Literally the best meal I've ever had. My husband had the halibut with the pasta and crab side which I sampled and that too was amazing. The desserts were over the top and they even gave us a complimentary "Happy Anniversary" dessert plate. We were attended to promptly and the portions, taste and quality of the food and appetizers are definitely worth the price! You must try it!
