While the room is, in fact, lovely, the cupcakes I bought to take to a barbeque yesterday were decidedly UN-lovely: dry, bland, not at all what I'd expect from a bake shop that has garnered so much press. Lovely appears to be a great place to hang out and have coffee, so I wonder if the name should change to Lovely, a Coffee Shop, especially since there were very few baked choices other than the aforementioned dry cupcakes. I wish I'd made a bit more effort to go to Sweet Cakes on Damen.

Lovely has the worst service I have ever experienced. I waited for them to open at 9:00 am this weekend, only to have someone open the door for another customer (who was waiting for a pick-up) and shut the door in my face at 8:59 and said, we are not open yet!
9:00 am for a coffee shop / bakery? Previous experiences had me standing in line for 5 - 10 minutes on several occasions just to buy a cup of coffee for my commute!
I feel like I am forced to go to Starbucks! Dry cupcakes too..

This cozy, charming bakery has some of the best cupcakes in the entire city. A perfect place to chat, study or just enjoy some yummy baked goods - the staff is super-friendly, all the goods are reasonably priced, and the merchandise is very cute.

A great comfy place to study or chat. Lovely offers upscale items on a student-friendly budget. Offers a nice respite from franchise offerings and cafes low on seating. It doesn't hurt that the blueberry muffins are the most scrumptious in the city either.
