We were visiting the town of Wheaton one Saturday lunchtime and came across this restaurant. We have often eaten at Bd Mongolians grill in downtown Naperville so knew the concept of the Mongolian stir fry so thought we would give this a try.

The food was very good and I have to say personally I enjoyed it more than in Naperville, although there were a few things that Genghis could actually learn from there competitors in Naperville. Firstly although the food is tasty you are only allowed one choice of starch where as in BD’s everyone gets a huge stack of tortillas brought to their table as well as a large bowl of rice (with plenty more if you ask for it). Pastas are also available at Bd’s to add to your bowl. The biggest difference for us was the atmosphere, you walk in to BD’s and the whole restaurant is alive and buzzing, you stand and watch your food being cooked at the grill, which is pretty much a stage show in its self. I missed that atmosphere so much at Genghis as you selected your food, took it to the grill and was told to sit down while your food is being cooked. To me the fun part of the restaurant was missing, and I have to say that it was so quite in there on a Saturday lunch it became rather boring.

Basically to sum it up, the food I thought was pretty good. The server very helpful but for us we found the restaurant just lacked any rear atmosphere.

This place is great because you can totally costumize your bowl with countless choices of protein, veggies, spices, and sauces. You can follow recipes provided or make a bowl with just your favorites. I always leave GG full because you can pile your bowl as high as you can. This is place is my favorite place to eat.

This place is great. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the owner/GM, we felt totally comfortable and at ease. Then we tried the food! It is about 10 steps up from any other Mongolian BBQ I have ever had. It tastes fresh and you don't have to worry about getting any black stuff in your teeth. The combination of great service, great tasting food, and a real value will make us want to come back again and again. If you are closer to any other Mongolian BBQ it is definitely worth the trip to come and try this fresh alternative. The kids loved every bite, and their "Mongorita's" are outstanding for the adults. They had every kind of liqour we could want. Definitely will be back!

My husband and I have been to Genghis Grill in Wheaton a few times in recent months. The service has never been stellar, they are very slow on refills and don’t come to the table even when it’s very slow. My husband really enjoys the set up though so we decided to go there Saturday night. We were waiting at the bar and I noticed everyone was being seated that came in after us so I explained just that to the owner. She was very upset that we had not heard her. She asked other people to verify that she had called our name, I wasn't even upset when I went up to her I just told her that people were being seated that came in after us. She was literally scolding me for not hearing her, which was totally embarassing. I don’t understand scolding a customer, I don’t know when that is ever right. Just because she owns the place doesn’t give her the right to treat people like that. I warn anyone not to go to this place if you want good service, you will not find it here.

An excellent hometown alternative to the big town Mongolian BBQ.
The food is excellent and the service is professional but personal. We had a great time
and will frequent this place with our family. Two suggestions for change--perhaps knock off a couple of bucks from the overall price. This way the cozy grill prices will match the cozy grill atmosphere. Also, kick up the wall decor to be less humorous and more Mongolia accurate. This restaurant is seriously good, it should take itself seriously also.

This place is new, and it shows! The service staff was entirely unattentive, and our small group had to ask repeatedly for refills. Apparently other tables had the same problem with drinks, needing to ask for replacement bowls, and several bins in the buffet remaining empty our entire stay at the restaurant.

The worst part? The grill must have been on low-power because it took FOREVER to cook our food. With a place like BD's you can feel the heat and your food cooks in a minutes, maybe 10 minutes at the MOST. Here, we would sit and wait, and wait, and wait... for food that barely broke a sizzle after 20 minutes. I don't know what the owners are doing, but it's definitely done by an amateur.

For the "different" kind of live and ethnic food experience visit this new restauruant in Downtown Wheaton. Choose your own ingredients or follow one of the many suggestions and watch your own food being prepared in a relaxed environment. Frienfly atmosphere and courteous service round up this as an experience you will repeat.
