I had several less than nourishing experiences at Borrowed Earth Cafe. Restaurant business is hard, my family knows first hand, but the customer still comes first. And I don't mean that in a snotty way; some customer demands are ridiculous. But it seems to me that the owners just don't have a very generous attitude: not on their faces, not in their words. If something tasts wrong or feels like its going to crack a filling, offer to exchange the plate. I'm not an overly sensitive person...I keep going back to the same noisy pub-cafe in the city where the wait staff ignors you...but this is different. Especially for the price. All that being said, the food is very good, and if you have $30/person to spend, try take out! They have compostable containers :)

My wife and I visited BEC for the first time this past weekend. It was quaint and quiet, as we were the only patrons. I am not into an exclusively raw foods or a vegan diet, and I am told I prefer a rather bland diet. This being said, there was more flavor than I prefer. My wife on the other hand loves herbs and spices, and she loved her lunch. The four stars I give relate to a blended rating. If you are into this sort of thing (or think you are), you'll probably like the food. If you are like me, it may not be your cup of tea—speaking of which "raw food" evidently does not exclude teas. Enjoy!

The food is AWESOME, service is even better, Dan & Kathy (owners) are very personable and great teachers of the RAW movement. Not to mention Uptomsha (don't know about spelling here?), but he is a genious with a knife:-)

I ate at Borrowed Earth Cafe last week for the first time; and I can't wait to go back. The food is absolutely fabulous. I was a bit squeamish when I first heard of raw foods, but I do like trying new and different things; I was not disappointed. The food is really delicious and beautifully presented. The owners are very friendly and informative. It's nice to know we have such a great restaurant close by. As an after thought I would just like to add, when you don't have to wait for the food to cook, you get served a whole lot quicker.

Food was outstanding, but the people are even better. They are dedicated to teaching so if you're curious about how you can do this in your life -- this is the place to go. You can literally stumble off the train & fall in their door so it's very convenient in the suburbs. I had the sampler platter & each dish was better than the next. THE DESSERTS (I had the chocolate pudding) was amazing! The Chai Latte was amazing too.

The food at Borrowed Earth is insanely good. Even if you are skeptical about eating at a raw food restaurant... DONT BE! The flavors are intense and the menu is diverse, and I would suggest to anyone who likes good tasting food and friendly service to try this place!

As a committed omnivore and gourmand, I approach eating at new restaurants with gusto, so when the Borrowed Earth Cafe opened two doors down from my son's favorite restaurant, our family decided to give it a shot. I've heard a lot about the raw food movement, but never went to a restaurant specializing in it. We sat at the bar, where we could watch them prepare our food, which is always entertaining, and quickly received several dishes:
Zucchini "Spaghetti" with marinara sauce - excellent texture, and surprisingly strong tomato flavor for an uncooked sauce. Definitely a favorite.
Pina Colada - need I say more?
Hummus - delicious, and the flax seed crackers go with it very well.
Indian curry - perfectly spiced vegetables wrapped in a collard leaf (nice touch!) and served with a carrot slaw and a cabbage slaw. My wife's favorite!
Falafel - true to the flavor of the original, also wrapped in a collard leaf and served with two fantastic salads.
Banana Split - the chocolate "ice cream" is pure cacao blended with frozen bananas. Tasted sinful, but good for you!
I didn't know it was possible to coax such authentic flavor from raw foods! I'm impressed not only with the quality of the preparations, but also with their dedication to a highly principled lifestyle. Success is sure to follow them.
