Very authentic. The service was so slow I thought I was IN Puerto Rico. 55 minutes before we saw our first speck of food. Waitress spoke decent English but didn't seem to understand much. I asked for Sweet n' Low and got sugar. I asked for the Appetizer combination plate and got fried pork which was terrible and totally lacking in any seasoning. Rice with chorizo and pigeon peas had no chorizo and hardly any peas. Basically, it was the kind of Spanish rice you get at a burrito joint. Pass this one by.

So everyone focuses on that dish, but what about the rice. It was so good. Although this is a very low key neighborhood spot the portions are very large, and you get a great value for your dollar. I will definitely be back really soon.

They do not have good food. Buffet style of food is not good. I make jibarito sandwiches better than they do. Just wait everyone in Chicago will eventually see what a great jibarito sandwich taste like, seriously...lol

I did not like the food at all, is cheap steak, not real Bistek; the worst Bacalaitos "Cod Fish Paties" I have had in my life (too greasy). Is so not Portorican that they don't have the classic Mayoketchup for your tostones or some sorullitos, they call Sopa the Asopao and the Gandules are not well cook. The waitress messed up my order, and even when I ask about the food they serve me something totally different. I arrive from Puerto Rico 2 weeks ago and was looking for a good Portorican restaurant, but this is not the place. Is a cheap place were Portorican food is serve and cooked by Mexicans. Malisimo!

Steak Jibaritos were absolutely delicious! A classmate of mine brought me and some other classmates to this restaurant one day. She is hal Puerto Rican. That was in 2004, and I live on the south side but I would drive to the north side just to eat at Borinquen. The rice melts in your mouth. Never had a bad experience to this day. I hope someone reads this review is affiliated or works there, tells employees to keep up the good job.

I was interoduced to this place by a friend she said they make sandwiches on something that looks like a banana. Well I have had plantain (green & yellow) in the past but I could not imagine making a sandwich on plantain.
Ha!!! I not only can imagine it I have EXPERIENCED it and it was wonderful. When they say this restaurant is the HOME OF JIBARITO that is no lie....I believe the portion size for eat in is much larger than take home but it deosn't matter because either way the value is FANTASTIC. My only complaint is the girl behind the counter getting your food together needs to smile more often and try to help the english speaking patrons a little more. She could take some hints from their cashier.

I just moved from PR and this is real typical food. Nothing fancy but the real deal. Service is slow so I would recommend carry out.
