I ordered some pizzas for take out and had arrived 20 minutes later than my expected pick up time due to traffic. The owner of the restaurant gave me one of the three pizzas I ordered free since they had gotten cold. It wasn't even their fault and he gave me a free pizza!! The real bonus was how good the pizza was. I highly recommend the white pizza.

This is the type of place mostly "locals" would tell a travelers--BEST PIZZA AROUND". My husband and I traveled to Italy last year and to our surprise the pizza was nothing like Chicago pizza. True Italian pizza is by either brick oven or coalfire and this pizza is the closest thing to "true Italian pizza". This was our second time there and although our pizza came out late our server was extremely apologetic and to be honest--the food is ALWAYS worth the wait. The owner truly understands what GREAT customer service it and is always warm and welcoming. Pizza is thin--comes out steaming hot and crust is chewy and crispy. Highly rec'd the sausage---we will order out from here too. It's an easy to get to location but can seem hidden if it's your first time looking.
Am telling all my friends about it--fantastic.

My husband and I went here recently, and we instantly liked the casual "homey" atmosphere. We ordered a salad and the Fiorentina pizza and shared both, and it was plenty of food for the 2 of us. I crave that pizza now! The service was excellent. Our food came out quickly, and they checked up on us a couple times to make sure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely be back.

We enjoyed our visit to Coalfire. Service was strong, the waitress was very accommodating and caring. The pizza was nice, same with the ambiance. Very good but not the best. This is a nice spot for an after work dinner and drink.

I went to Coalfire Pizza for the first time last night after hearing so many wonderful reviews from friends and seeing it on NBC 5...Great Pizza!!! For a town that is known for its pizza, this place definitely stands out for its different approach and its great ambiance. I highly recommend going to the restaurant and experiencing it for yourself!!

Such a breathe of fresh air for chicago pizza town. Its so good, where u can eat so much, yet still not have to be "rolled" out of the restaurant. Very good, and I recommend this to all my friends and acquaintances. Its so good, you are stupid not to try it once!

We've gone back to Coalfire a number of times since my April review. The husband craves the stuff. The staff must have listened to the comments at that time, since they have been more firendly and upbeat the past few visits (though we were always fine with how they acted toward us -- no need to be my BFF, just get me my food fast). As a note, Coalfire is NO LONGER BYOB. Just so ya' know. You can pring your own but there is now a corkage fee. So sad. But the pizza is still yummy as all get out. Enjoy!

My husband and I discovered Coalfire this summer. The pizza is good, and since it is made in a brickoven, it comes rather quickly. The atmosphere is good; it's small, but since the pizza comes quickly, the turn-around is fast. I enjoyed all of the servers I have had. They always have great suggestions. The BYO policy now has a corkage fee ($10), but they do have beer and wine.
All-around good experience for our neighborhood. West Town needs to keep evolving with more commerce. Thanks!

We were skeptical based on some of the reviews, but our dinner at Coalfire tonight was quite good. The room is loud, and service is basic (but with a focused menu how much in-your-face service do you need?), but the pizza is fantastic. Great crisp crust with just the right amount of char and chew. The toppings were tasty too. My husband's meat pizza was loaded with sausage, pepperoni and ham (?) and my 4-cheese was pleasantly cheesy without being too overloaded. Sauce was tasty and in my opinion not in need of salt as other reviewers suggested. I added basil to my pizza and while 10 basil leaves might seem sparse, since the add-on is only $1 (instead of $3 like add-ons at some of our other favorite pizza spots) I can't complain. The BYOB feature is awesome, and permits you to walk out the door with leftovers for a tab of about about $30. We'll definitely go back -- though I'd suggest eating early if you don't want to wait -- and since this is a small space with no room to wait that might be the best option.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews, since I had a wonderful experience when I went back in January. The service was quick (party of 7, we ordered 4 pizzas) and the pizza was the best Neapolitan i've had in Chicago, BY FAR! Maybe it's hit or miss, but i'd definitely go back.
