Faceoff: Union vs. Omaggio

We match two pizza-focused Evanston eateries slice for slice

It’s not hard to see why we’d be tempted to pit Evanston’s brand-new Union Pizzeria (pictured far left) against three-month-old Omaggio (near left), still in its infancy just a half-mile north. They’re both upscale Italian spots with a focus on thin-crust pizza, ran by well-known E-town restaurateurs. Union’s owner Steve Schwartz owns Campagnola down the street, while Robert LaPata of Omaggio is known for French bistro La Petit Amelia—and both owners tapped their in-house chefs to man these newbie ventures.

We tackled both spots in the same night and noshed on similar fare to see how they stack up.
