I found the Nile a few weeks ago with a friend from out of town. Nice local restaurant amongst the many local ethnic spots on 55th, but nothing that blew my hair back. The food was good; nothing amazing. Everything was just okay...again, just not as impressed or happy as some of the other restaurants that are nearby.
Personally, I enjoy Cedar's, which is just down a few blocks on 53rd & Kimbark.

I have traveled all over the middle east and have found the Nile to be the closest to true middle eastern "home cooking" of anywhere I have eaten in the U.S. The owner is friendly and informative when asked questions about the food or the culture. I strongly recommend this restaurant. Worth the drive into Hype Park!!

Atmosphere is like eating in a basement cafeteria. Yet, the food is very good. Worth a trip to Hyde Park? No. Decent place if you live there? Certainly.

The best middle eastern food I've had outside the middle east! Outstanding falafel, mojadara - great variety for vegetarians and the best part - the food always tastes so fresh!

I lived in Hyde Park for some time and finally decided to give this restaurant a try. It disappointed me. The service was slow and the waitress was incredibly rude. We requested an additional serving of bread during our appetizer and it arrived 20 minutes after the main course. The staff was persistent in ensuring we turned over the table as soon as possible. Because of the poor service, we decided not to leave a considerable tip. The waitress then decided to shove the change in my face while trying to exit the restaurant. She kept insisting we keep the change as we left in a loud voice. Aside from not giving her a strong tip, there was no reason for the rudeness. This will be the first and last time I go here!

Amazing food. Worth the drive to Hyde Park. Flavorful portions will have you coming back for more.

Absolutely my favorite Middle Eastern food in Chicago. None compare. the chicken shawerma, there are not enough words to describe the most delectably roasted meat I have ever had. Consistently amazing food. I have been going for 14 yrs and have only recently ventured from the chicken shawerma to the combination plate. Generous portions did not disappoint. And it's Hyde Park, which well, just rocks. Go Maroons!

Food was very good. Service was not. Waitress was rude. I'd go back, but not leave a good tip.
