Finally made it over to chickpea and loved it! Food was yummy and great music, which is always nice. Tried the daily special, mussakhkhan, which was delicious and the hummus/falafel. I took a menu for carry out/delivery -- looking forward to eating here again.

Just like Homemade

A true find. With all the Middle Eastern restaurants in Chicago, this is the first one that I've gone to where the dishes taste like the food you share with friends in their homes. I'm bummed that I missed stuffed zucchini night as this is my all time fav dish. The Service is great I have never tried Knafi and they let me try a taste before I paid to see if i liked it. Causual setting allows to go as you are without sacrificing the best middle eastern food that I have paid for. We will be back again and again.

Yummy!

The owner and chef will most likely be there upon your arrival and make sure that you are comfortable, understand the menu and the ordering process. The food was excellent and the portions are good for grubbing. The only complaint I have is the beverage situation...I wish they served tap water. Also be warned the hot sause is crazy HOT! So watch out....

Great food cooked by Mama
By johnskrb from Northern suburbs, January 28, 2009

Go for the food, as it's great. The decor is informal and fun. There is no table service, but I still gave high marks for service as mama herself came out of the back and recommended dishes and explained their origin. The prices are very reasonable.

Stuffed Zucchini
By Chicago Concierge from Wicker Park, January 26, 2009

My husband and I stopped by tonight after hearing a lot of good stuff about this place and we were not disappointed. I had the Monday night special - stuffed zucchini - and I will be back on Monday again without a doubt. The hummus was also very flavorful and tasty. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - you can tell that everyone there wants you have a good experience. Amni stopped by to check how we enjoyed our food and we could tell that she was genuinely flattered by our praises.

Great food

The food and atmosphere here is very good. The portions were a little small I thought at least you need to have a side with the meal if it's smaller. But all in all I give this a good review. Go and enjoy.

Great food, but room for improvement
By mm from west town, January 3, 2009

Great home cooking. The great attention to detail in the food, needs to be applied to the restaurant as a whole. The message in the food is clear: delicious simple flavors, but the restaurant's overall message is confusing. Movie posters on the walls, the pinball machine, and American pop music are misplaced. The restaurant would greatly improve if it offered table service and played authentic music. Go for the food, not the ambiance.

Chic Pea
By Timmy from Da Bus from Hill Country, Austin Texas, December 2, 2008

Overall rating:

That is the best damn Palestinian food in the city. Family recipes prepared with fresh herbs and spices that compliment each and every dish on the menu. With a great looking room, and the Suqi family all working at the Chic Pea together, it gives a nice warm family type atmosphere, along with a pinball machine to keep the kids occupied while you finish up a great plate of food. Just curious... is it true that the outdoor dining garden in the back is going to open once the weather permits?

Delicious! Great prices! Vegetarian-Friendly!

Chickpea is the zenith of Middle Eastern cuisine in Chicago! Go eat here! You will not regret it. The atmosphere is fun and laid-back; the food is inexpensive and absolutely delicious! If you take someone here on a first date, you are sure to impress and your wallet won't be much lighter! As a vegetarian, I am impressed by the many vegetarian and vegan options. My non-vegetarian friends love the meat dishes here as well. The food is prepared authentically and with quality ingredients! There is a cool genie pin ball game in the far corner which you might overlook. It's free and loads of fun. Give this place a try and I guarantee you will be raving about it ---

Best Middle-Eastern Food inChicago!
By Foodie629 from Logan Square, November 22, 2008

I went here last week with friends and was absolutely blown away! Chickpea has the most authentic and delicious fare I've enjoyed since moving here from Jerusalem last year. The kaasa ma labaan is spiced with the perfect balance of mint and zucchini. The pistacchio baklava is out of this world. With plenty of options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians this is a must try in Ukranian Village. Shalom!
