With this Middle Eastern spot in West Town, nightlife impresario Jerry Suqi (Narcisse, Sugar, La Pomme Rouge) switches gears to focus on food. The menu touts dishes you might find in a Palestinian home, and it’s truly a family affair—Suqi's mother, Amni, runs the show in the kitchen. Expect choices such as mussakhkhan (sumac-spiced chicken with pine nuts and onions on olive oil-glazed flatbread) and fasoolya (braised lamb with green beans and tomatoes with rice). More familiar offerings include falafel and hummus. Chickpea isn't as over-the-top opulent as Suqi's previous spots, but you can expect some flourishes, including intricate Islamic patterns and imported movie posters from American films (with Arabic text) on the walls. Once the dust settles at Chickpea, which opened in November 2008, Suqi will set to work on his next project, a high-end fine-dining restaurant with an art focus opening in 2009 or 2010 in Logan Square.
