I promised my southern CA wife when we moved here that we would be able to find great Mexican food. Zocalo is the answer. We not only love the food, but the ambience is outstanding. The tables aren't on top of each other, so you can actually have an intimate dinner. The bar area is great, and the whole restaurant is very relaxed and authentic.
We enjoyed the guacamole and the ceviches, of which there are several. Entrees were excellent. And, while we rarely find great Mexican deserts, Zocalo was a surprise. The chocolate cake as well as the apple crepes were fabulous. Good prices. Nice wines. Very friendly staff. All in all, a gem in River North.

This is the place to be on Mondays, I heard they have been around for Salsa on Mondays for 1 year. I have seen atmosphere's on Fridays at other Restaurants and when I walked into the place I felt like it was Friday. Definitely a place you want to be if you have a Bad case of the Mondays. Service is Great and they have a salsa class that starts at 7:30pm and its only $5 dollars to enter and you walk out of Zocalo's feeling great! I truly recommend it!

Bad margaritas. I still can't find better margaritas than those on clark and belmont

I absolutley love the food here Ive been coming for a while now and just cant get enough of the different delicious plates here specially the steak mmm and not only the food is great the original drinks are all so tasty management is always friendly i love to recommend this place always

I went to Zocalo for the first time last night. The ambiance is wonderful. There is a very nice bar area and the dining spaces are split into three different rooms giving it a cozy feel. From the moment our server Patricia came over our dining experience kept getting better. Margarita were wonderful. Also had the trio of guacamole which we enjoyed. They put an original twist on food items which makes the dish unique and delicious. The entres were also great. Both the camarones and carne asada are the best I have had to date. The portions are generous and quite ample to share with others at the table. I will definitely be back.

I recently reserved space for a 30th birthday party at Zocalo. First off the prices they quoted me for bottle service was more than the advertised amounts on their website, secondly and most importantly they decided to cancel the reservation because management never decided to check their VM that confirmed the party. As my party continued to arrive management was rude and uncaring of the situation. The room was finally ready after an hour and a half. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Thanks for nothing!!

So, a few co-workers and I decide to head to Zocalo to get our Cinco de Mayo Buffet on. We pull up and there is a big sidewalk sign advertising "Lunch Buffet $10.95". The food smells great as we head in. Problem is there is...No Food!!! You've got to be kidding me...Where's the hidden camera? The place is packed to the gills and the buffet is so empty as has been for so long the remnants have completely crusted over. We keep asking the staff when the food is coming..."They're preparing it..." After 20 minutes of waiting we walk out.
Gimmie a break!!! Booo! Go buy a calendar and try to be prepared you goofs!

Mondays @ Zocalos is the place to be. You enjoy your dinner and cocktails then from 7:30-9pm lose the calories with extreme salsa dancing. Rick and Liz are excellent dance instructors. Come out visit every Monday nights be ready to be impress. Its awesome.

I made reservations for part of 10 at Zocalo’s, management stressed for me to be prompt or they would charge me fifty dollars on my credit card or give my reservation to someone else, Well……. I was on time and they made my party and I wait twenty minutes for our table. It took forever for our server to attend to us, they took the longest time to bring our drinks and food, not once did they ask us if we wanted more drinks. After making us wait so long for our table, food, drinks they emphasized that we needed to be out of the dinning area by ten thirty so they can prepare for the night club. The food was over priced for the amount of portion. As people inquire about Zocalo’s I would not recommend it at all.

Went Friday night and could not hear my group talk with the DJ playing the music extremely loud. Food was mediocore and I can't believe the city of Chicago let's these restaurants operate as nightclubs instead of restaurants. Very disappointed.
