This place is soooo good and serves some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had other than going to my abuelita's house when I was little. Atmosphere is easygoing (person who described it as a cross between a taqueria and high end restaraunt explained it best). I went on a Wednesday night so we were seated right away. Loved the ecelctic mix of patrons. Our waitress was really nice and checked on us without being intrusive. Enough food for your meal AND left overs at a great price.
Report This ReviewImagine a middle ground between a "fine dining" Mexican restaurant and a typical taqueria; there you would find Wholly Frijoles. The place looks like a regular taco joint, but the food is more sophisticated and complex. Service is well-meaning and efficient, if not spectacular. This restaurant gets really crowded really fast, and parking can be a major pain. However, the food is worth the trip.
Report This ReviewI had read great reviews about this place and was very excited when I looked at the menu. But our food came cold and the steak was like leather - no taste and couldn't hardly cut it with a knife. They need to work on quality control, but they were nice and attentive.
Report This ReviewI was a frequent customer here when they first opened. I worked in the area-about 3 years ago and the food is delicous but I am surprised they still have that crowded problem and they have not expanded. They have been crowded since the beginning so I always would just order for pick up and one of us would squeeze in to pay, pick up and go..this way we would avoid the chaos in there.
Report This ReviewOnce you get past the wait you are in for a real treat. This is the best Mexican food I ever had. I lived in So Cal and this blew it away. The chicken stuffed with mushrooms and cheese is to die for! You get a lot of value and a lot of food without a lot of money. My Fiancé' and I have been there 3 times and we look forward to our next visit!
FYI - Do not go at prime diner hours and expect to be seated right away, common sense will tell you that.
Report This ReviewWe have been here over a dozen times over the last few years and have loved it every time. The tortilla soup is outstanding! Highly recommend the Bistek Borracho. Don't be put off by the strip mall location - this is an excellent restaurant, may cuts above standard taqueria fare, and consistently delicious.
Report This ReviewYes, there will be a long wait if you go during peak hours, BECAUSE THE FOOD IS GOOD! I have been here many times, with from 2 - 10 people, and have found the service to be good and the food to be outstanding. If you have 6 or more people they will reserve the large table for you. Don't come here for taco's and guac.
Report This ReviewAtrocious management! I've never been treated so poorly in my life! After my boyfriend had sour cream spilled all over him all we were given was a halfhearted sorry from the waitress, were weren't even offered a moist towel to wipe up the mess let alone assistance cleaning up, a formal apology of some form, or compensation for damages. After explaining the situation to the manager she shrugged and said "What do you want me to do? I didn't spill it on you." And left. I was so upset that I decided to tell her I felt it was the worst customer service ever and we would not be back. She scoffed at me and ask what she should have done. At the mere mention of us getting anything for free she began yelling Oh I see, you're cheap! You want everything for free! And we had already paid. If you want mediocre food and to be treated like crap go to Wholly Frijoles. Just don't wear your good clothes.
