Worth Leaving the City

Everyone would believe it is a pain to drive up to Lincolnwood just for Mexican. Not true! I have now been there 4 times and every time it just gets better. Never have I or any of my friends/family ever had something they didnt like. Even the basic enchilada there is better than any I have ever had...and I've had a lot of them! Everything from the homemade salsa to the tortilla soup to the entrees (My favorites are Shrimp fajitas and the Shrimp and Enchilada Combo - Verde, or green, sauce). If you are from the city and think El Tapatio is good, then you must try this! Call ahead to put your name on the list the day. OH - and this is BYOB with no charges!!! It doesn't get much better than that!

Fabulous Gem!

Tucked away in a strip mall, this is one of the best Mexican joints I have gone to in years. The table service salsa is fantastically spicy, and the chips are warm. The menu offers an array of choices, beyond basic Mexican fare. We had the enchiladas in mole (excellent, smokey sauce) and the chicken tacos (prime slices of meat). Also, WF offers an extensive homemade dessert menu, rare in a Mexican restaurant. Highly recommend (call ahead on Friday and Saturday nights!)

OK, so you don't want a little taco joint, fine, you want a mexican dinner. If you are a northside foodie with tunnel vision this is your spot. If you can't wait to tell everyone at the office you went to Wholly frijoles, well go ahead. I you want an authentic Mexican go to Matteo's on Montrose, just east of harlem. Wholly Frijoles is decent but...

The Best!

I've been 4 or 5 times to this restaurant. My most recent visit was Friday and as always it's fantastic. The shirmp and spicy mashed potatoes are my favorite as well as the tortilla soup! A lot of food for the money and friendly service! Hint: Call ahead to be put on their waiting list! Not sure what's up with the review below by "Joe". I think it's a little unfair that he went to the restaurant several years ago and is just posting a review now!!!!

I went there with my wife and children. My young daughter ordered an enchilada and the waitress asked if she wanted red or green sauce. My daughter chose red. Her plate was the first to arrive and when my daughter started to eat her enchilda it was appearent that she did not like it. She said the sauce tasted different. Wwe called the waitress and asked her what kind of sauce it was she said it was mole, and in a rather rude manner the waitress said that everyone knows that red sauce is mole. I asked to speak the the manager and the manager said that they would change the order but we would have to pay for a new plate. I was taken aback with their attitude, i.e. if you don't like it leave. We had not received the other dishes and got up to leave and the owner threatend to call the police on us. Really. This was back in 2004, we have never gone back.

A friend and I went for dinner last night and the food was wonderful! The service was great! The restaurant is a bit small, but the wait was reasonable at 10-15 minutes. We will definately be back!

We went there for one of our girlfriends birthday. When I called in the morning, the person who answered the phone was not very warm and told us that they would not take reservation. We will need to call at 5 PM to put our name on the waiting list. When we got there on time, we were told to wait until the whole party has arrive (for total of 10 people). Once we got seated, the service is good and the good is good. The bowl of soup is huge, I hardly had any room left for my salad. Great value.

After having a long drive, I was very disappointed with the management during the morning. The manager was extremely rude. When I asked a question to the hostess regarding the menu, she ignored me and went to another customer and began to answer the phone at the same time. I told the manager about the situation and she said "NO NO NO SHE IS BUSY, YOU HAVE TO WAIT. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, I'M SORRY." Wholly frijoles needs to practice on their management skills!!!
