Though, I often reference on line referrals I never bother to write them myself, but I was so impressed that I decided needed to speak up! It was cold and snowy night and we did not want to drive far so we decided to give La Casa Del Gordo a try and Wow was I surprised. From beginning to end everything was top notch. The atmosphere was bright and cheery, service was outstanding, the food was presented beautifully and the taste was exceptional. I had the sea scallops in a garlic sauce with spinach and asparagus (sorry but I can’t repeat it in Spanish) Several weeks ago we visited Rick Bayless’s Fontera Grill and though the experience was nice, La Casa Del Gordo out performed them in all area and it was much easier to get to. La Casa Del Gordo has moved to the top of my favorite restaurant list.

The food was excellent. I had a skirt steak that came with an enchillada covered in mole sauce. The mole was as good as I have had. The service was a bit lacking however. We ordered a pitcher of sangria. Instead of having a fixed price, they just multipled how many glasses were in the pitcher. This came out to a rediculous price of $45. We had to reason with the manager why this wasn't right and they finally comped it. I would go back for the food, but if another situtation like this occurs, I would probably head for other good Mexican restaurants in the area.
Report This ReviewThis is a great addition to suburban Mexican dining. The food was great! Outdoor dining is available, but beware, you are sitting on a parking lot. Nevertheless, it was a great dinner.
Report This ReviewThis is a pleasant surprise for a Mexican restaurant in Highland Park. The food is quite good, although not inexpensive. Selections are a bit weak on the simpler tacos, enchiladas, tortas side, but stronger on the more complicated and upscale dishes. Atmosphere is welcoming. Bar area is spacious for waiting.
Gordo needs to create an outdoor setting to complement the indoors.
This place is really good. Large portions, inexpensive, high quality Mexican. Service is outstanding - the nicest bunch of people you will ever meet. I think it is best Mexican in the area.
