I went with a friend because we wanted a margarita it honestly it was the closest Mexican restaurant with a bar. We were both blown away by the tastiest margarita I have ever had. Fresh squeezed lime juice (No gross sweet and sour mix) and a tequila menu three columns long. Our server gave us some suggestions I went with the rich flavored Herradura. This was a drink to savor...which we did a couple more times. At around $8.00 I thought it was a great deal. It was really surprising when combined with the fresh guacamole made table side. We both tasted notes of vanilla...yep...crazy! Yes, the entrees were more expesive than I would have thought, but my shredded pork with black bean and rice was very good. I asked for a spicy salsa to go with and the waitress brought me an excellent one. Not just hot, but flavorful. It has been 4 nights since I was there and have been thinking of that margarita since. I am looking forward to taking more friends. By the way, I have worked in the service industry (restaurants) for 24 years. I am not picky, but know when a place is average and when the owners don't care. That isn't this place. Above average and the owners care and obviously pass it on. Yum!

Terrible food, way over-priced, lousy service....but other than that, not so much. My burrito had peas, carrots and potatoes in it, and wasn't supposed to. My friend's dish did not have them and was supposed to. Then they argued with us that we were not reading the menu properly when it was them who could not read their own #$%$ menu. The manager finally agreed with us but made no adjustment. NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!

We've given this place a few chances to improve but the food is way overpriced for what you get and the service is just horrible. We won't be going back.

I've eaten at Little Mexican Cafe at least 7 times. They make their own tortillas which is a delicacy if you know real Mexican food. The Aztec Salad is to die for. The first time I had it I had to tell everyone I know about it. The cilantro salad dressing is out of this world. The fajitas are excellent too. I also like their pork tacos. It is well worth a visit and then go back to try something else. I know you will find many dishes you like even if it takes a couple of visits to find them. You'll have a good time no matter what if you indulge in their Margaritas!

We just came back from this place, and it was average food, average drinks, overall too overpriced. We sat outside, because music inside was too loud for us. Guacamole was good, chips were average, tamale was iffy, service was good. We enjoyed our bus-boy better than waiter, but it was attentive. Overall not bad. I don't think I will go back again though.

Instead of trying to emulate places like Adobo or Frontera with gimmicks such as a guacamole station and margaritas poured from martini shakers, this place could benefit from improving on the basics: faster service, better food (even the chips) and tastier, dare I say stronger drinks.

Lucky for That Little Mexican Cafe they dont have any competition in Edgewater/Andersonville. That is the only reason I can think there are so many good reviews on here. Notice most bad reviews are BAD. This place is WAY over priced for what it is. The food is far from authentic. The margaritas are EXPENSIVE, which I have no problem with if I could actually taste the tequilla and not be choked by bottled sweet and sour mix. The service is pretty good, atmosphere ok, but the food and drinks (most imporant part of dining out) are not worth going back!
For good Mexican go to Cesars or Las Mananitas in Lakeview or try Ole Ole in Andersonville

I just returned from dinner here and ran to my computer to write a review... what a suprise! My partner and I just enjoyed an amazing meal, with service to match. We started out with the table-side guacamole, then enjoyed the flank steak and grilled pork tenderloin. Although the cuisine is not what I consider authentic Mexican, everthing was terriffic! The young lady who prepared the guacamole was a sweetheart, and our server was polite, professional, and very attentive. We will definitely return!

After reading the other reviews I am not sure if those people ate at the same place I did. I guess they have never had good mexican food. I really wanted to like this place, but it was just awful. The service was friendly (and relatively fast), and the margaritas were "ok" - but the food was terrible. My fajitas that came on a hot skillet were luke warm at best, and my partners enchiladas tasted like a frozen dinner! To add insult to injury, it was completely overpriced. Go for a drink, chips and salsa, but do yourself a favor and stop there!
