Good... as a last resort!
By mbnissan1 from River North, August 9, 2009

If you find yourself craving Mexican on a Sunday night and all the better choices are closed this is an extremely average choice. You might be better off having a shot of Tequilla and hitting the local Taco Bell...and save some hard earned dollars.
The "Grande" Special Margarita priced at $18 dollars each is absolutely absurd ...and at a measly 10 oz's should be renamed El Grande Dummy Tourista Especial.
Nevertheless everyone is nice...and it would make memorable evening if you are here from Sioux Falls South Dakota.
If its not Sunday or Monday...go wait in line at Frontera Grill...it is worth aggravation.

Don't go out of your way for this place
By mcdominy from River North, May 10, 2009

It's a good thing that this place is located in a high traffic area. The service was OK and the food was allright at best. If you are in the area and are hungry for mexican, then it will take care of your needs. However, I would not venture out of my way to go to this place. The food is not that expensive, but it should not be.

Mexico in the Heart of Chicago
By ChiTownLovers from Downtown, March 3, 2009

If you like Mexican you have to come here. The food is authentic and is very enjoyable.
The atmosphere is so inviting and warm. The service is absolutely outstanding and as if you were in Mexico...while in the midwest! The staff is outstanding.
The margaritas are the best. You can upgrade, but the house are true to tradition and never sweet or full of syrup as in so many U.S. versions of this drink. The company of the bar staff is something you will not find in most places, they are friendly, kind and accommodating.
This place is truly a little slice of Mexico planted in the heart of a great city.

Disappointing
By eventgirl from Magnificent MIle, January 9, 2009

This place is completely disappointing. The decor, food, and service were all completely uninspired. There are so many Mexican restaurants in the city that are way better. I will not be back.

Yikes!

Beyond delicious queso fundido (mexican white cheese with chorizo)! The ambiance is fun and bright and the margarita selection is diverse. I will warn though, they sneak up on you! The guacamole was extremely bland. There should be more to it than avacados and a couple of tomatoes. I suggest to the chef to add some cilantro, onion, garlic, lime juice and salt. A bit pricey for what you get. I will definitely go back, but only if I'm in the mood for an appetizer and drinks.

Better than that....

Wow...everyone is slamming this place. My 2nd visit in the past year, while in town for business. The food and the service were about average both times...but the margaritas were top notch! Huge selection of aged Anejo's and Reposado's to choose from, along with a friendly bar staff. Thhis place is a great change of pace from stuffy choices like Morton's or Fletchers, at half the price.

Terrible
By Refried Quesdilla from Cleveland, November 11, 2008

I ordered a Quesadilla with Chicken. It came out as 3 small folded tortilla's with cheese that wasnt even melted. I took one bite and it was soggy with old grease and there was NO Chicken. I asked the waiter to take it back and bring me a Quesadilla with Chicken. He apologized in a "fake" Accent and took it away. He came back with in a couple of minutes with the same Quesadilla that I had taken a bite out of- they had stuffed chicken in them and put them back on the greasy flat top. It was disusting and I can not believe the server would even bring it to the table. The others that I was having lunch with said that there food was also not good. We all agreed that it was the WORST mexican food we had ever had.

Worst ever
By hgielrehtaeh from South Shore, August 26, 2008

Oil does not equal tasty.
My cheese dip was terrible. No one cooked the flour in the rouix, so it was gritty and tasted like flour.
My chips were so oily they dripped oil on my chest.
My tacos rancheros were so oily that the corn tortillas they came in were translucent.
YUCK.

OILY
By guamswhitest from Chicago, June 2, 2008

Every time I've eaten here, the food is mediocre at best. I think the only decent thing I've had was their chicken nachos. Their margaritas are decent, as well. You're sure to work up a good buzz. Everything else, including their vegetarian burritos were too oily and greasy for me.

not worth it
By nik from gold coast, March 5, 2008

they don't know how to make a good guac, which is a mex restaurant staple. margarita's were too strong, and even the starter chips were too greasy. almost no other patrons when we went on a thursday night. being practically on the mag mile, i'm not sure how these people can afford their rent. there are other, better options available in a 1 mile radius
