Geno Bahena. The man, the myth, the mole. The onetime Rick Bayless protege, who is still most famous for his amazing Ixcapuzalco (now closed), makes another comeback with this spot opening this summer. This latest venture, a Logan Square BYOB, brings Bahena back to his roots: The menu's almost identical to Ixcapuzalco's and the name references his Mexican heritage. You'll find three moles on the menu every day, plus a rotating mole of the day. The space features tall ceilings, a relaxed vibe, plus a mezzanine level that's perfect for private dining. Entrees include a duck breast with a guajillo chile and cilantro sauce served with garlic potatoes and green beans and bacon; shrimp served with cactus, potatoes, grilled green onions and a spicy red guajioolo sauce; and pork tenderloin with green mole and tamales. Bahena says he wants to create a "nice, rustic, and down to earth" spot. Plus, "I wanted to have something on my own and to settle in until I retire." Currently scheduled to open around mid-to-late July.
