Mariscos El Veneno
- Neighborhood: Ashburn/West Lawn / Ford City
- 6651 S. Pulaski Rd.
- Chicago, IL 60629
- 773-582-5576
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
This West Lawn spot serves an all-seafood menu in a similarly all-seafood atmosphere. Literally squished between a Radio Shack and another business, the mostly Spanish-speaking BYOB is less about the ambience and more about the food. Dishes are prepared "estilo Nayarit," or in the style of Nayarit, one of Mexico's west coast states, and showcase the many seafood preparations specific to the region. Oysters, shrimp, lobster, fish and other creatures of the sea are served fried, broiled, spicy or mild--but always fresh. This location is one of two Mariscos el Veneno in the city; the sister restaurant, spun off in 2008, is located in Ukrainian Village.

"Very dissappointed...."

Thought ordering a snapper filet would be safe considering we're in a seafood restaurant. WOW, what a dissappointment! Filet was breaded and fried...
