Awesome Upscale Mexican

Just tried this darling restaurant after reading a good review in the Trib and it was awesome! The food was unique, the flavor profiles were spot on, and we loved having a place near by for upscale Mexican food. The food was as good as Rick Bayless' Frontera but MUCH less expensive! Our server Paul could not have been more friendly and accomodating! GREAT NEW PLACE!!!

Food was good but not for the price

Food was ok/good but most entrees are over $15 and guac is $9. And the food was good but not as good as mixteco which is a lot cheaper. It almost looks like they copied the mixteco menu and added $3-$4 to every dish. The BYOB they had down, lots of ice and lots of limes for our margeritas. Going to give it another shot because we live in the area and like BYOB.

Phenomenal meal!

From the outside, Los Moles was not that impressive. On the inside, it is a nice little place, and has a great patio, which will be better once the weather warms. We had reservations for a party of 8, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server responded to our every need, provided wine glasses and poured our wine and offered us a chill bucket for our tequila (It is BYOB). We started with a variety of appetizers, and each one out did the next, the flavors were amazing. 3 in our group decided to do the Chef's choice, and were presented with a 5 course meal. The moles were filled with flavor and not overpowering. We all tried each other's dishes because we all wanted to try the next dish, none of them let us down. We used to frequent Ixaccapulco, Geno's previous restaurant on Milwaukee Ave., and have missed these amazing dishes. We are happy to have Los Moles in our neighborhood, and plan on visiting again soon!

This place opened Monday, and we went on Wednesday. The food was spot on but the service was a little off. I think the staff was all trying too hard because they were constantly asking if we needed anything, etc. I think they will work that out though.
Once again, Chicago has better food that Mexico itself!!!

So-so

Granted they haven't been open for long, but the staff situation was a bit confusing. We had about 4 waiters come over and tell us they would be our server for the eve. The menu is extremely meat centric - my friend is a vegetarian so we had to ask for something special to be prepared. They did accommodate us and it was quite good. I had the halibut - mediocre - fish overcooked and rice very boring and bland. On a good note, the guac was excellent as was the green salsa or chile sauce. The ambiance is a bit dark and sort of gothic. I won't be anxious to go back, but the effort was there. I lean toward thinking I'll be surprised if they are open in a year.
