La Sierra, which means ''mountain range'' in Spanish, has been family owned and operated by the Sierra family since 1985. The bright and friendly Ravenswood restaurant serves both Ecuadorian and Mexican cuisine to a neighborhood crowd. Natives of Ecuador bring their families to dine on weekends, choosing from Ecuadorian favorites such as the fritada, a fried pork appetizer made with hominy and toasting corn, seco de chivo (goat stew) and patacones, which are fried green plantains. Mexican fare includes affordable tacos, tortas and tostadas, as well as combination platters complete with rice and beans. Outdoor diners in the summer enjoy a colorful mural on the west outdoor wall of the restaurant that depicts indigenous Ecuadorian people at a colorful marketplace.
