Good, cheap, divey Mexican

The burrito was messy and yummy. Carne Asada was tasty, but chewy. The tacos were a little plain on their own, but delicous with the sauces served tableside. Service and ambiance weren't great, but what do you expect?

Love it!

Another restaurant that LTHForum's Neighborhood Awards clued me in to. Terrific! Guacamole's great, and about $3. Burrito's are huge and delicious. But my favorite--you can get the dinner platter with lengua (tongue), even though it's not listed on the menu. I know, it's beef tongue and if you didn't grow up eating it, like me, you find the very thought nauseating, but it's unbelievably tasty when prepared properly, and like the other food here, it's dirt cheap. The complimentary chips, salsa (two) and pico de gallo are outstanding, too. As used to say in the Downbeat magazine annual polls--"Talent Deserving Wider Recognition"!!!

Es La Bomba!!!

This place is the bomb! It's the real deal. If you want fresh tasting tacos that are overstuffed with chicken or beef, this is the joint. This is as close to Mexico-style as you get. There's no filler... It's meat, onion, and cilantro stuffed inside 2 delicious corn tortillas. If you want a lot of cheese, sour cream, guac, and other fillers you can get them on the side. However, I recommend sticking with the basics here, squeeze some lime on it, some green salsa, and let your taste buds go wild. If you want ambiance and margaritas, go someplace else. If you want the best tacos in Chicago, this is da joint.

The food here is cheap, cheap, cheap. I got a barbocoa(steamed beef) burrito, with a side of sour creme..that they charged extra for and forgot to put in my bag. This place was so busy was in line for 20 minutes before I could even order, then I waited an additional 15 minutes before I received my togo order..the beef was greasy and there were literally "blobs" of fat latched on to the beef, but then again like I said its so cheap here..you definitely get what you pay for. Good place to eat when you're drunk and quality is low on the list.

I've been here several times and I wouldn't classify it as a table-service kind of place. It's more of a fast food, place and grab your order at the counter kind of place, so I don't think it's appropriate to expect the level of service that others have. The food is good and cheap, I'll go back again.

I couldn't agree with the last two reviews more. I was truly disappointed with my experience at La Pasadita. My husband and I dined one Sunday afternoon and were utterly confused when we walked through the door. It was quite chaotic: dirty tables and no wait staff to be found. Once we found a clean table, it took 10 minutes before someone took our order and another 30 to receive our food. We each had 3 steak tacos and found them to be good. Definitely NOT the best in Chicago though. Overall, I will not return to La Pasadita, but will walk right across the street to El Barco, a truly GREAT Mexican restaurant! La Pasadita was a waste of time and money.

Myself, along with 4 of my friends visited this eatery after seeing it on Check Please. The one thing all of us agreed on was it was by far the worse dining experience we have EVER encountered.Four of us ordered steak tacos and one ordered the steak burrito. We got a table right away but waited for over 45 minutes to receive our simple order.Several tables come in after us, but were served before us.Once we received our food we all agreed the meat was chewy, dry, fatty, and tasteless. However, what really made this experience unbearable was the horrific service and the rude server we were cursed with. Our server made it next impossible to ask for anything (some napkins, another drink, more chips), and when we did, it went ignored.I could list a slew of other negatives, but this space is limited. If you make the decision to go to La Pasadita after you read this review, don't say you weren't warned.

My friend and I had a barbacoa taco and burrito. The meat was gelatinous and fatty. We each took a bite and that was it. Also had the quesadilla...it came in a bland, soupy sauce. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but that shouldn't matter.

Sorry, but I must strongly disagree with all those folks that think this place has the best (steak) tacos & burritos. Found the steak meat to be tough/chewey and not particularly tasty or well-seasoned. Tacos were also very greasy, and too little 'filling' of onions and cilantro. Also, we paid the extra 50cents for gaucamole, and there was barely a quarter-teaspoon if that on any of the Tacos. And, dissappointed there was no option to add real Avocado (which is my preference). The usual free Tortilla Chips were also not very well-made or tasty, and the 3 sauces to go with only so-so. The only positive note I'd make is that it is BYOB, so you can definately eat (& drink) on the cheap. But, for my money (and tastebuds), TACALITLAN beats this place hands down. (See my review of Tacalitlan).
