Best Mexican Seafood in the city! BYOB, near the Morse Redline Stop, SUPER cheap and large portions. Can’t beat it and I would HIGHLY recommend it.

I almost don't want to add my review because I don' t want this place to get too popular, but they do a good job and deserve more business. The owner doesn't speak much english, but she knows what she is doing in the kitchen and she takes care of her customers - spanish speaking or not. The "beer garden" out back is nice and quiet in the summer. If you don't BYOB, they also have Mexican coca-cola, made with real sugar (not corn syrup).

My only complaint about La Calzuela is that it has ruined all other Mexican food experiences for me! Not only is the food here consistently fantastic, but it's also plentiful and cheap. It doesn't have the best ambiance, but it's always spotless and the service is friendly. I like that they give you not only chips and salsa on the house, but also a small portion of their fish soup. To note as well -- it's no longer cash only, they do take plastic.
Report This ReviewWe showed up here with a group of 15 after attending a performance at the Raven Theatre, armed with beer, wine, and margaritas. IT was perfect-they prepared a family style feast for us with plenty of kid friendly food for the young ones. The shrimp were wonderful.
Report This ReviewA really good place for Mexican food. Probably the nicest looking restaurant in the area -clean and well decorated. The service was good despite the fact that our waitress didn¿t speak a word of english (not 1!). Menu looked interesting. I had Skirt Steak Fajitas. Loads of food and nicely seasoned. My major complaint is that the skirt steak pieces were way over cooked. They had a jerky consistency. My wife had three tacos ¿ shrimp (good), seafood (really good), beef (ok). I had a glass of orchata Some restaurants dole it out like it is a rare cognac¿never understood why. Here it was mega size and good. Overall, a good bet if you are in area though I¿m not sure it is worth a special trip.
Report This ReviewWow. In a totally inconspicuous location in Rogers Park. What a nice surprise. This place is so clean you could practically eat off the floors. Atmosphere is that of a taqueria...very simple. Best Orchata I've ever had...creamy & with lots of cinnamon. Best Sope I've ever had. Huge Sopes. Didn't try the seafood yet, but will definitely be back to try as many things on the menu as I can. Great prices.
