La Casa de Isaac Mexican Restaurant
- 431 Temple Ave.
- Highland Park, IL 60035
- 847-433-5550
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
The man behind the name of this budget-friendly restaurant is Isaac Nava (La Casa del Gordo). Nava imported his own mama from Acapulco to train the kitchen staff on traditional Mexican home-cooked dishes. Mama's favorite are the enchiladas, packed with chicken, onions and cheese with myriad toppings, including green salsa and Cotija cheese. Heads up: The restaurant closes at 3 p.m. on Fridays and remains closed all day Saturday so the Navas family can observe the Jewish Sabbath. When daylight savings time ends, the restaurant will open an hour after sundown on Saturday for evening eats.
