Saw this on Check, Please! and all I can say is, they must be reading these reviews. We were greeted by the friendly hostess, who upon learning it was our first time, explained the menu (which really didn't need explaining, except for the last page which is in Spanish, detailing the types of fish/shellfish available, their taste and texture and usual uses as well as nutritional information). Our waitress was also friendly and professional and even the water boy and bussers were courteous (asking before removing dishes or refilling water). But the food was just fantastic! We had the scallop 3 way special appetizer (the truffled one was the best!), the skate-wing entree special (the plate surrounded by the most fantastic smoked tomato gazpacho) and the regular crab-crusted mahi-mahi which was the hugest chunk of fish we had seen! The portions were extremely generous and the plates were well presented. Maybe because we eat in the City, we didn't feel that the mid-$20's for large seafood entrees was excessive. On the contrary, we thought it was a value. The tomatillo/avocado dip and mahi ceviche sampler that came with the chips were exceptional. The cocktail list was fun but a bit pricey for the sizes delivered (except the huge margaritas which were being consumed all around us). It was loud and very crowded by 7p so reservations are a must. If they would close the blinds and hang some curtains, the ambiance and sound problems would be improved immeasurably. For those who went and loved the food but won't be returning because of poor service experience, I'd say "rethink that position". And if you loved the food but thought it pricey, well, I can't imagine what you're thinking when you're being served such inventing, well-executed seafood.

I have never tasted food so rich and so good in my life! I loved the Mahi Mahi ceviche for starters but that Grouper fish with shrimp took my breath away! It was so delicious, tasty and fufilling. I will give grace to the ambiance since the food was so good, but the place needs more spice to complete the overall exprience. The booths I see were no longer there after watching the show "Check, Please!", but more work needs to be done in this area, but still the overall experience with simply amazing with lots more potential.

What a surprise! Upscale south-of-the-border seafood with hole-in-the-wall ambiance. The entrée quality rivals anything I’ve had in trendier spots and finer restaurants, and unfortunately, the prices do, too. Lunch, however, offers a great value. The chips, cerviche and avocado crème are a treat, and the pan-seared grouper was a step up from my usual soup and half-sandwich lunch. Service was quick, polite and attentive; dishes and flatware stylish and appealing. It merits at least one return visit.

My husband and I went to Flamingos with another couple for lunch after learning about the restaurant on Check Please. We were very disappointed. Our service was terrible. Our waiter was very unfriendly and unhelpful. We had to ask for refills on our drinks and for our check at the end of the meal. We asked for more tortilla chips, and he charged us for them. Although the food was delicious, it was very expensive, especially for lunch. It turns out they have a special lunch menu, but it was not made available to us. We ended up paying over $100 for lunch for 4 people, without drinks. We will NOT be back.

I found the food to be a step above most restaurants I eat at. However, everything is very spicy. Heartburn spicy that seemed to stay with my hubby and I throughout the night. I loved the mahi-mahi and also tasted my husband's garlic shrimp which was very good. Our dinner for two with no appetisers, drinks or dessert -just the entrees was $60, very pricey.
I found the hostess to be rude when she rambled so quickly over the menu that we could not understand her. Our waiter was very attentive and answered all our questions. Found the menu to be a little confusing.
They have to be making a profit with these prices, why aren't they updating the interior? A very sterile look with uncomfortable booths. The inside looks like a cafeteria. Why?
Probably will not return.

Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed all the food - wonderful calamari, garlic shrimp, and sea bass.
The service and ambiance was so bad we will not go back.
Our reservation was not honored, we had a hot air vent blowing on us so hard our hair was blowing (yes, we asked them to turn it off), our waitress was sullen, we got charged about $20 for extra sauce and chips (if a table of two got one bowl of each, why wouldn't we at least get three, or at least tell us there was a charge), and the most disgusting thing was the ladies room. There was a sign to not put toilet paper in the toilet and the wastebasket next to the sign was overflowing with used toilet paper!

I went to Flamingo's on valentine's day with another couple. The food is so good the ambiance is nothing speical, but the taste of the food compensates for that. great drinks and service. I will be back for sure!

My wife and I had heard about this place around the corner from us, hearing rave reviews from Channel 11's Check Please and many other sources. Unfortunately we left very disappointed in the service and ambience as well as the food. When we sat down, the server just walked up and said, "do you want something to drink?" (ie, no greeting, etc). The gin and tonic I ordered was almost all tonic and no gin...$8.00, what a ripoff. Then we ordered appetizers: goat cheese and ceviche which were OK, nothing spectacular if a bit salty but as we were finishing our appetizers the server brought the main course! Didn't ask if we were ready for our main courses or not, just brought them and tried to wedge them onto the table. Very disorganized...or were they trying to rush us out the door? When we asked them to hold off on the main course until finished with the appetizers, they waited until we were sitting there with no food or drink in front of us to finally bring the main courses. After that the server asked 4 times how the food was except never asked if I wanted another drink (we wouldn't have anyway, in an effort to not run the bill any higher than it needed to be). At that point we were ready to leave, trying to finish as quickly as we could, and walked out with a frown at the wait staff. They knew we had a bad experience and we decided to share it on this website as a warning to others, especially after seeing that everyone else has raved about Flamingo's. It is a shame that the entrepreneurs that started this business are obviously not ready for the fine dining scene. We will NOT be back.

Flamingo's has very little in common with typical Mexican Restaurants. Instead, you'll find gourmet Mexican food reminiscent of the Frontera Grill and Topolobamba. Chef Jorge and staff dress outstanding fresh seafood, shellfish and meats with flavorful sauces sometimes including very non-Mexican ingredients such as truffles. The ceviche and other appetizers are tasty and come in generous portions. Everything from the cool curvy china to the artful desserts takes Flamingo’s beyond what you were expecting. You’ll also find great margaritas and an ample selection of fine tequilas.
Don’t let the nondescript exterior of this former fast food location fool you - the "good stuff" is on the inside.

Very very delicious and deeply satisfying to the senses. The food is just outstanding and has won me over. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and presentation. The attention to detail and artistic taste is simply breathtaking. The food is definitely worth the the money. The Tequilla Shrimp, Red Snapper, Lobster Bisque and Chilean Bass are all winners. Thank you Jorge for providing extraordinary cuisine with a personal and artistic flair.
